Slow Computer

I have to work on a project (not school) on photoshop. The size is of the file is 117MB (I'm making a huge poster, 1 metre by 2 metres on 300 resolution)

The problem is, the file is so big that my computer moves SO slow that I can't get anything done!

Is there anything I can do? I tested opening the file on my laptop and it won't even open, so it has nothing to do with how much space I have on my computer (around 50GB/180GB free on desktop and 140GB/220GB free on laptop)

    There are many pieces of software that you can use to make such a document. PowerPoint is quite common, based on the you-probably-already-have-it criteria. Design programs like Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator are also good choices. It's also possible to produce a poster in LaTeX.

    Bitmap programs (like Photoshop) are generally inappropriate: a vector-based image is needed to print at this size with reasonable clarity.

    I'm actually using both photoshop and illustrator for the poster... I just needed photoshop for some effects illustrator doesn't have.

    Anyways, that's not the point here, both photoshop AND illutrator can't seem to handle the load.

    The reason your computer is running slow has nothing to do with the free space on your hard drive. It has to do with the lack of RAM you have.

    So I guess there's no other way besides buying some RAM?

    I don't want to bus/skytrain up to Surrey for an hour to do it, plus I'll have to bring all my photoshop stuff with me... and for some reason, I don't think I can install fonts into the school computers.
    Overall, it'll be too much trouble.

    Use the task manager to close down any unnecessary programs. For example, anti-virus programs, winamp, MSN, what have you.

    A lot of programs you install have an "updater" program running in the background that's always checking for updates. Close that shit down.

    Might not even be the lack of RAM. Could be too slow of a CPU to handle it?

    It could be CPU, 'cause one time I was workig on it a message popped up saying I was running out of CPU....

    Uhhhhh.. CPU = central processing unit. Basically the thing that does all the processing work needed. You can't really "run out" of CPU. It would be hard to tell what's bottlenecking you if we don't know the system specs :)

    I think i'll be okay, I just close down EVERYTHING except photoshop or illustrator and it runs almost normally =T
