Like I asid in the shoutbox...

    6-7 is the best
8+ or under 4 and your lifespan will be shortened.

I must have a good internal clock because I tend to wake up after around 7 hours of sleep... but sometimes I jsut go back to sleep =]
And I ALWAYS seem to beat my alarm by half an hour no matter when I set it...

I alternate every night cuz I have school MWF.. alternates between 3.5 and 7.. and I seem to be functioning decently. I guess that averages out to around 5-6.

    Damnit! I sleep 7.5 hrs a day! I can't choose in the poll :(

during my shitty fall 08 semester I got about 6 hours each night and felt like shit always. Now i'm back to close to 8 hours a night

i find it hard to get a full 8 hour sleep on a school night nowadays.

i heard 10 hours sleep is actually the norm until the lightbulb was invented. so maybe 10 hours shouldn't exactly be considered as sleepyhead

I'm pretty sure there's no maximum amount of sleep you can get. But if you're 5 and under you're life span on average will be significantly shortened.

As for me, I get 7-8 on school nights, and up to around 9 on weekends

Can't find the exact article, but here's one:

Studies show that people who sleep between 6.5 hr. and 7.5 hr. a night, as they report, live the longest. And people who sleep 8 hr. or more, or less than 6.5 hr., they don't live quite as long. There is just as much risk associated with sleeping too long as with sleeping too short. The big surprise is that long sleep seems to start at 8 hr. Sleeping 8.5 hr. might really be a little worse than sleeping 5 hr.

I just did a google search and it seems there's a few sources backing that up. There are also some going the other way though. I guess we have to wait for more research to come out. Or this could be another example where correlation does not imply causation.

For the past three months, 3-4 hours of sleep. 5 max. Health is deteriorating and I can feel it. My skin feels like crap, and I can't even have proper posture anymore.

Regardless of what time it is in the semster, rather it is beginning of the semster or exam/ paper time, I usually have 8 hours of sleep every night. Unless I suffer from my occasional Insomnia, I usually fall asleep at around 1:00AM.

I average around 7 per night. I've lived on 5.5-6 with no problem. I sleep 8 or 9 occasionally if I have no reason to get up in the morning.

my sleeping schedule is fucked up and has been since last year.. i'm lucky if i've able to get 4 hours of shut eye a night cause sometimes my body would be exhausted but my mind is still doing it's own thing or vice versa.. this keeps on going until i completely exhaust myself and crash for like 17-18 hr session and the cycle starts all over again..=.=" it's horrible since i noticed how my body is reacting to not getting enough sleep.. =(

Not enough! 8 hours is the minimum that I strive for, but 10 is gold

This poll is misleading. I sleep 5-6 hours a night but it's not necessarily because I have more important things to do.

...Unless mindlessly checking and rechecking my e-mail at 3 in the morning is considered 'important'.

When rowing I aim for 7-8 hours a night, usually I get it.

When I am in military training it's 6 hours a night, unless I am in the field on ex, then it goes from 0-4 depending on what we are doing.

just curious.. does anyone here take afternoon naps? especially those that don't get much shut eye during the night?

Usually 7 hours a night.... questionable on the weekends (ironic, I know!). I usually function better the less sleep I get but if I get 9+ hours of sleep, I really feele groggy and have no energy whatsoever. Weird!

Yeah, I'm like that too. If I get too much sleep, I feel like crap for the first few hours.
