The 51st Grammy's

edited February 2009 in General
Did anyone catch it? (between flippings of Cast Away and Ray both playing on tv)

Lil' Wayne, TI, Jay-z and Kanye performed with a pregnant MIA.

Robert Plant f/ Led Zeppelin got two awards including album of the year w/ Alison Krall.

Coldplay did NOT win album of the year but won rock album of the year for Viva La Vida or death of all his friends (is that what it's called?)

Rap album went to CARTER III

hmmm... Jennifer Hudson performed, along w/ Coldplay featuring Jay-z, Kid Rock performed...

DID ANYONE CATCH THE SHOW ON TV???

I was flippin back and forth between the Grammy's and Castaway. Coldplay's performance and win was awesome...as was the Swagger Like Us performance. I don't understand why MIA would perform when she was so pregnant, it looks like she was about to burst lol

Yes, Rhianna is hospitalized right now with visible bruises on her face and body. What kind of asshole does this to one's girlfriend?

What I don't understand is that now a small guy like Chris Brown can get a drop on Rhianna and what possessed him to do such as thing. I can totally see gangsta rappers doing this to their girlfriends (no offense) and their friends, but Chris Brown doesn't look like the violent, thuggish type.

It is not a matter of how good you are, but how much the record company paid the judges.

For example, back in the 45th Grammy Award, the only reason Norah Jones won the Best New Artist award and not Avril Lavigne is because Norah Jones is an American. Honestly, who listens to Norah Jones here? A show of hands? Anyone? No one, Ok.

However, since relations between Canada and the US at the time were highly strain because we choose not to invade Iraq. The American, swept up in patriotic fervor, were unhappy with Canada and gave the award to Norah Jones instead of Avril Lavigne because Avril is Canadian.

    Oh Lord.

Coldplay won because their album was just plain better, have you listened to it?

As well, your Avril Lavigne theory is way off. Her album was childish, albeit catchy, she lost because the other album was just better rounded.

Coldplay is nice and I am glad to hear that they won. I am glad that shams and corruptions did not cheat them of a well deserved Grammy Award. If you guys plan on accusing me to be flip-flopping because I am happy that Coldplay won while at the same time said "It is not a matter of how good you are, but how much the record company paid the judges." I am refering to the Grammy Award, safe for a few instances where justice prevail, as a whole.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you can not deny the rise in anti-Canadianism in US at that time. It bound to play a role in one way or another. Seriously, they renamed French Fries to Freedom Fries and dumped a good bottle of French Wine into sewers at that time. To the Americans, giving Avril the award would be like giving a FRENCH writer instead of Tom Clancy a Literature Award.

Grammy award winners Nelly Furtado, Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, and Anne Murray would like to have a word with you, Desmond.

^Was all that before the Iraq War when the American were still a beacon of democracy or after the Iraq War when the American realized that there were no WMD and they become the laughing stock of the world.

Finally, many of them, particulary Celine Dion, are ACTUALLY GREAT singers and artists. No money can cheat them of an award.

Another example of sham was when OutKast won the Album of the Year for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in the 46th Grammy Award. First of all, the song Hey Ya! sends shiver down my spine everytime I hear it and OutKast's performance during the 46th Grammy Award was highly offensive. Finally, what's so special about splitting an album into two and having each guy work on one CD?

But if you think about the sheer number of American pop artists that are active in the US, compared to that of Canadian artists, it's easy to see why more Americans win. Afterall, it IS an awards ceremony presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the US.

What would WMD have to do with Canada? I dont think 911 has anything to do with anti-canadian sentiment. Also, Avril Lavigne is not french, born and raised Ontarian.

You're reading way too far into it, isn't Diana Krall Canadian as well...?

Avril's album was too popish, she would never have won, it would be like britney spears winning a prestigous award. I liked her first album, but I don't think it was grammy worthy.

Ok, there maybe some major misunderstanding. WMD and 911 have nothing to do with Canada or anti-Canadian sentiment. I am trying to say that Canada's decision to sit out on the Iraq invasion lead to some anti-Canadian sentiment in 2003. And of course I know Avril is not French, she is from Belleville, Ontario. I made the comment about French writer because the Americans at that time were EXTREMELY anti-French, especially if this French writer beat the all American patriotic writer Tom Clancy. Since the Americans are all swept up in patriotic and militaristic fervor, they probably are dead set against giving any award to anyone whose country not in their Coalition of the Willing.

Still, this is just my opinion.

Wait, your sources said it was Jennifer Hudson that Chris Brown assaulted? How old was the sources? There are quite a number of conflicting stories when the story first came out. The worst part is that they didn't even ID the victim. The first story that I read sounds as though Chris Brown and Rhianna was together when Brown assaulted another woman.

Ok, who's that in the pic?

It's definitely Rihanna...and the reports of her injuries keep getting more and more exaggerated. I can't wait till Chris Brown actually speaks out about this because at this point it seems like he's just waiting for the LAPD to press charges.

According to a police officer at the scene, Rihanna's face was heavily brused and bloodied. Even I had a hard time picturing her injuries. As new detail began to surface, this assault being to sound more and more disturbing.

He should just safe it for his trial. Who knows, maybe Chris Brown is ready to accept a plead bargain from the DA for attempted murder in exchange for not being sent to a maximun security prison filled with guys wanting a piece of Brown.
