I don't know why that I got a penalty of $100 for this semester..... from what I remember I did drop courses... but to switch to another course.... I don't remember my overall net load has decreased as it was always this amount of courses.... i only swapped....

^Well you should not be penalized, talk to the Registrars.

Edit: When did you drop this course? If you dropped it like on Friday night, it will take the system a few days to update your status. For example, I dropped a course last semester, and then added a course, then swapped it with another course. It took GoSFU about three days to update itself.

If you only swapped and didn't drop your net course load then you should

    a) double check that your right about that
    b) go talk to someone in the finance dept. or academic services

if you're right and it's a mistake they would probably be willing to fix the error

If you dropped and added a class you didn't swap properly.

You need to use the actual swap function which does both at the same time, which would be what Kevin means with his a) point.

Hang on a minute Randomuser, like I said in my post, last semester I dropped a course, and then added a course, then swapped it with another course. I didn't get penalized at all.

last semester, i dropped a course and then added another one (i didn't use the swap function) and i didn't get penalized. i remember after i did it my friend told me i would get penalized b/c i didn't swap and i was worried so i called and they said it doesn't matter as long as you add a class within the particular time frame you are on (ie: if you drop while the charge is still $50, you must add while the charge is still $50 [before it ups to $100]).

i would just call and they should fix it.

^Me and collegestudent summed up nicely, regardless of rather you use the drop then add method or swap method, you will not get penalized as long as your net course load did not decrease.

ya... i did these all the time in the past semesters..

Well, since it's been over a week now, have you went to talk to the peeps at Student Services?

Hey you know what. They asked me to write an appeal and I did. I got half of the money back because I only asked for $50 ( I wasn't completely sure if there was one time I dropped one extra course)... now looking at it again, it seems I can ask for full refund.. Should I do that again?

^Explain to them clearly of your situation and ask for the remaining $50 back. If they refused, tell them you will contact the Canadian Council of Better Business Bureau if they don't give you that remaining $50.

Here is the CCBBB's contact information...

You are forgetting a minor detail, SFU is not a business.
