edited January 2009 in General

by the way, i know if you get really low gpa, you get kicked out eventually... but what about peeps that have a passing gpa but not high enough to declare a major? :omg:

It's not a website, its an official SFU Document...I wish I remembered where it was. You can find it in the search function on the main SFU website.

If you dont have enough GPA to declare, either a) youre nearly failing, b) youre already on AP... so you'd have to take random electives to bring your GPA Up (which most likely would exceed the amount of lower division credits you require, thus wasting your money)

say ur going for a business major, and ur done all the lower division with a 2.8 gpa...cant u start doing the upper division, get up to a 3, than declare?

You need a 3.0 to declare...? I thought that was just for admittance to the faculty...? Or am I missing something...

But theoretically by your question, the answer would depend. Does business allow people to enroll in upper division without declaring?

depends on program, but if youre below 2.0 you arent even meeting the schools academic standards?

it depends on the faculty, i know for declaring a major in mbb you need a 2.5

to the best of my knowledge, say you are entering 3rd yr and if u are trying to get into a program which you do not have the min GPA requirements

    you can:
take lower div courses to boost gpa
take uppder div courses to boost gpa (not program specific)
attempt to register into the courses for that program, mind you some will have restrictions and may only admit students within that program

^and if u do that and boost your gpa enough to meet the gpa requirements, then u will be admitted and will have some of the required courses to graduate already taken care of

    I didn't think you needed a 3.0 to declare.
I haven't declared and I've taken a good bunch of upper division business.

You can take upper div business courses without declaring but registration is reserved for approved business majors until the end of the first week of the semester...so it's pretty slim pickings for courses if you're not declared. And that's only for the upper divison general business classes. Upper divison classes that fulfill concetration requirements (i.e Acct, HR, Marketing) are only open to business students.

I think the GPA to transfer into business form another faculty is about 2.90 to 2.95 and you just need to have all the lower division business requirements to apply.
