for you computing science kids..

edited November 2008 in General
I'm grade 12 possibly going into techone for first year then transfering into computing science. so i can get a BA in CS to become a multi media teacher.

Just had a question, how multi media related is computing science? I've read over course descriptions etc and I don't understand much thats being said.

Does it teach basics like web design, graphic design related programming, and/or movie making related stuff?

If anyone could help me out here it would be very much appreciated!

Everything you're talking about (web design, graphic design, etc.) is part of the School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT)... computing science is like computer programming...

The stuff you are talking about is not computing science. That would either be in SIAT, or BCIT or the Art Institute downtown.

Computing Science is not really about computer programming (again that is in BCIT), it's about the mathematics and science you do with computing. Stuff like AI, neural networks, graph theory, etc all fall under computing science.

comp sci is more about the underlying workings of computers and software
not how to use software or computers ;)

We do have a course that deals with computer graphics though. It talks about geometry, matrices, vector calculus and what not. Could help you out though.

It is true, but it is not a fun course, hence why I will avoid it, and it won't be helping you if you want to work at Pixar.

Though you could probably be a highschool multimedia teacher with a CS degree (not that you really need a degree for highschool multimedia) cause highschool multimedia is a joke.

If you know how to use word, power point, extremely basic html, a little bit of photoshop and illustrator, I think you're good.
