edited November 2008 in General
Has anyone taken CHEM 121 know what the grading scheme is like for the course? Does it get set to a bell curve?

Depends on the professor, depends on the results of the class.

    He's probably BSing.

Arts students don't take science courses.

Plus our teacher switched after the midterm. lol.

We actually do have teachers switched, but it's planned out that way. There are two CHEM 121 classes, so Dr. Holdcroft teaches the first half of the course in both classes, then Dr. Leach teaches the ends of the course for the 2 classes. So it works out that each of them teach "one" class.

    I'm a science student :|

Our teacher was Steven Holcroft one half of Chem 121.. and Gary Leach the 2nd half.

Go check it out, and fuck yourself while you're at it.

I took CHEM 121 with Holdcroft and some other prof (haha I don't even remember his name... Holdcroft was awesome though!). Though I don't remember them talking about the grading scheme, there was definitely a curve, because I think my mark was below 80% but I still got an A+.

Yeah, 121 is routinely taught like that. The profs switch off halfway.

Curving is not going to usually be an issue in chemistry, since the average tends to be anywhere from 30 to 70% depending on how well/crappy the class as a whole does. It's not like business or some arts classes where the average is an insane 90-95%. :P

News to me that profs normally get switched halfway through the semester. Took CHEM 122 last semester with Wilkie and he majorly sucked. Very unorganized and spent a lot of time on how to derive formulas, eventhough he said it's not on the midterm  Eventually Walsby took over (TA said one of the students complained to the Dean) and it was a sigh of relief.
