Waitlist Purge

edited November 2008 in General
Why would they purge a waitlist?

I'm registered for 2 classes and was waitlisted for 2 crim classes and I was getting kind of excited because I had moved one spot down the list for one of them today..

I go to check the status on them 20 minutes ago, and it shows they are dropped.. so I'm thinking WTF? I check my sfu email because I couldn't find an answer as to why anywhere else and Gabriel had sent out a mass message to ppl who were waitlisted in these two classes saying that they had been dropped and waitlist had been purged.

what does this mean? and why? I'm sorry if this has been answered before, I couldn't find it.. but I'm getting really fcking pissed with SFU and it's only my first semester.. It's bad enough the crim program barely has enough classes with enough space to accommodate students, but now we don't even get a fighting chance when waitlisted?

I dunno, I was waitlisted for two classes (402 and 343) and I was not impressed with the waitlist purge. Luckily this morning I got into 402 so I was only booted from the one class, but I am still not impressed. Now there is no chance to get into the good crim classes.

Humm, I always thought they only purge waitlist after the first week of class. So let me get this straight, they pretty much turned off the waitlist function? That's was sad, I was hoping that you guys would finally make the breakthrought and use waitlist.

I was waitlisted for those same classes! Ugh.. I am so sick of this shit.

Jay, what time were you able to register for that 402 class? I should checking in the morning and throughout the day in case a spot opens up..

    I was purged as well.

I don't understand why there were even waitlists available to begin with, since CRIM supposedly does not provide waitlists. I thought they decided to be fair like other departments this year.

I don't understand why they do this, why even have registration dates and not have waitlists...

WOOT!!! I just got into 402.. I've been refreshing my gosfu screen like a madwoman today and was just about to give up, decided to giv'er a go one more time and there was ONE bloody spot that had opened up!! It was a gong show trying to enroll in it because every time I tried it kept saying "sorry, this is a duplicate number" I had to swap it out with my crim 300 and then go back and re-enroll in 300. It took my like 5 minutes and I was literally sweating, with my heart pounding worried that someone would snatch it up before me..

SFU is gonna give a coronary, for reals.

Tell me about it.. when I first got accepted this past summer I went to see Phil Jong about picking courses, what to expect, what direction I should take with class selection etc.. and he talked down to me, was super condescending and basically told me I was lucky to even have gotten into SFU and that I should expect to have no social life whatsoever if I expected to do well at all.. he said and I quote "Do you know how many people want to be in SFU? Do you realize how lucky you are?"

It's not like I got in with a low gpa!! The only reason I didn't stay at Kwantlen to do my BA was because I want to work for the fed govt eventually and I figured SFU was the better known school on the east coast as opposed to Kwantlen..

Gabriel on the other hand has been nothing but nice and helpful and he ALWAYS replies to my emails within a day or two unlike phil who never writes back..
