SFU Surrey and JPN100

edited November 2008 in General
I thinking of taking JPN100 at Surrey this sem because I can't seem to get my schedule into something that doesn't require at least 8 hours in transit in a week. All the courses I've taken so far are at BBY so I don't know what to expect. Do I need to get a keycard or anything like that?

No phones are allowed in. You have to walk through metal detectors and in front of the school are tons of drug addicts so watch out. If your driving, there is an 80% chance your car will be broken into.

Otherwise though there's no difference, except for the metal bars across the windows due to the crime.

    LOL
i think SFU BURNABY looks more like a jail
with the metal bars outside the library =\
it's freaky how i look out the library window and it looks like i'm in a jail cell

Seriously? I have got to visit the place at least once before I graduate.

So, which Skytrain station do I get off at and what bus do I take to get there?

I would choose Surrey campus over BBY anyday.

Just go and you'll see why.

    not sure about the buses,

    they are both not joking
i'm reluctant to take night classes in surrey campus because just a year or 2 ago, some guy got stabbed RIGHT OUTSIDE of the skytrain station
and it's like a 3 minute walk to the mall/campus from the station

Ah good ole Surrey Central Campus
also known as Crack Central Campus.
  • edited November 2008
Nobody has answered my question yet >_> I've been there once or twice for open house and its pretty nice.

We are advising you to strongly not go to Surrey, for your own personal safety.

They used to have a keycard access but then these crack addicts broke it, and broke in and then they stabbed a guy for a mere $5. They never replaced the key access because they know it would just get damaged again.

    5 bucks? i heard it was 10
he gave it to them but they still stabbed him for having only 10 bucks
  • edited November 2008
I dunno, I can't remember much. I gave them the money but the continued to beat me anyways. They also hit me in the head with a metal pipe.

    Surrey > Burnaby

    :)

I have one class there next semester, yay!!!
  • edited November 2008
I will be done on Dec 8, I may pay the place a visit on the 10th or 11th just to see if it is as bad as you guys say it is. I mean, despite all their idiocracy, I give the admin the benefit of the doubt that they are not intentionally endangering students' lives by building a campus in a supposed "crack central."

Don't worry, I've had classes there before :)

I understand the fact that Surrey Central has been rated the most dangerous place in B.C. but it's actually not that bad in the daytime. Sure, you encounter the occasional crackhead and the hobos but it's seriously not that bad. And this is coming from a girl too.

Eh, or maybe it's cus I used to go there all the time since my ex-boyfriend lived there and made me meet him there... Note that he is now an ex-boyfriend.

    well it is in Whalley
    and Whalley is crack central
Go to the shell gas station at king george and 108 in a car
you'll get 4 or 5 crack heads running up to you trying to score drugs
or walk there and get mugged
    either or
    haha

Okay, nevermind. I don't think I'll be having a class in Surrey cus some bitch just took my tutorial spot.

    Definitely... in shittyness

kinky, you seem happy to have dumped him, no?

What the hell? Where have you been triple? Surrey is fine. It's a gorgeous campus, and the lecture halls are quite nice. Most crack addicts never come into the malls anyway and usually hang around that library and the porno store. I had two semester there and I turned out ok.

On a good day, you might see two prostitutes fighting each other over a shoe near the skytrain station.

I never heard about the crack addict breaking in. We do have security guards in the lobby 24/7.

Have you been there this semester? It's terrible
crack addicts are gettin hit the worst with our current economy

    ...

I was the one that got dumped... bastard!

But turns out I am taking a course in Surrey but it has caused me to drop PSYC 280. :(
  • Guy, be kind. Although metal detectors bring a lot of inconvenience to us, they are indispensable for the security of public safety.
  • lol this thread is almost 5 years old
  • what's with kmykimi's obsession with metal detectors? how about you get a strip search instead?
