Right and Wrong

edited November 2006 in General
I don't know about you guys but I think that right and wrong don't change depending on history, culture, place, and personal history.

It seems to me that people now-a-days seem to think that if someone was treated bad when they were a kid that it is some how ok, or less bad when they do something wrong.

or that people in history, or another part of the world who do something bad should be excused because they are in a different situation.

doesn't this lead to the destruction of morality? sure maybe morality as it was practiced 50 years ago was too strict, but that is because people 50 years ago were doing the wrong thing.

it seems that people are throwing the baby out with the bath water today with their loose morals. People just do whatever they want without thinking of consequences or impact or right and wrong.

My thoughts are that if it doesn't hurt anyone (physically, mentally, etc.) then do what you will.

Seriously, who's to say what's right and wrong? Politicians? Religious leaders? You? Me?

If you aren't hurting anyone, then you aren't doing anything wrong.

i beg to disagree..right and wrong do change in the course of history.. what was perceived to be right in the old days doesn't mean it is now.. women weren't allowed education in the past and homosexuality was shunned for its worth.. people diagnosed with a mental disability are sterilized without consent.. and africans were viewed to be nothing more than slaves.. in today's context... are these the right things to do and should be continued? what i'm trying to point out is that people's value change.. morality changes and so will the perception of what is right and wrong.. yes perhaps it is somewhat a destruction of morality.. but it also created human rights and the awareness of racism and discrimination.. =)
