I want to become a multi media teacher...

edited September 2008 in General
And don't know how!

I want to become a multi media/info tech high school teacher.

I'm graduating high school this year and am absolutely lost as to where to go/what to do.

I don't know what courses to take, where to go, what to get a degree in, and i know no deadlines.

I've heard in order to qualify to go into teaching school you have to major in something, then have another class type (ie socials/eng) that you can teach. Is it possible to just major in multi media/info tech and not have to major/minor or w/e in any other subjects?

I don't know anything about how university works. I also was told its smart to go to college first and do the first two years there. I was wondering if you guys think this is smart? And if so some multi media reccomended colleges to xfer into SFU with?

-_- im so confused.

On purely financial grounds it can be better to go to college. That having been said you need to find out how strong the various media type programs are at each college. No point saving your dough only to find out you got a totally crappy education.

    Computing Science.

All the info tech teachers have a degree in computing science. Though really, most of the crap you learn in CS won't be applicable in High School level info tech. High school level info tech is so basic that you can teach it if you're even a little bit tech savvy (most high school teachers are computer illiterate). If you know how to make some basic html webpages, how to use power point, word, excel, probably photoshop and basic programming then you're good to go. Might as well just get an easy degree and apply for the IT position at school.

Or get a degree in multimedia and design from Emily Carr or something.

I saw this thread title on the front page, and all it showed was "I want to be a multi..." and my mind filled in the world "millionaire" as the ending. Then I saw "media teacher" and I was amused. :p
