What the hell is going on?

edited August 2008 in General
I posted a thread a while ago about how SFU has asked me to post my provincial marks up and whatever and how I have to get them to a specific level before i can get full acceptance... then i CALLED and told them I've been out of highschool for 2 years and there was no "provisional acceptance" indicated anywhere on my acceptance letter... and they told me It wouldn't affect me and that it was just a mistake.... now I get this:

You're named after a shitty car company?

Just call them them tomorrow, or fire off an email. Hell, probably better if you do both. There's not much else you can do right now.

They either made a mistake, or you have not satisfied the basic enrollment requirements.

I had to go to college for two years before gaining admission cause of one of my provincial marks.

Call them first, and theyll probably be super busy but try, then email if you cant get a response, but I would not rely on email.

give it a business day to update

even if you have been out of school for two years what are the criteria your admission is being based on then? although it does sound dumb how they are wording it to you like you just got out of high school

actually it doesnt...i needed i think an A- on the final and I got a B

since i didnt get high enough and i was out of high school i couldnt obtain admission cause i didnt have the english literacy requirement

esl students are allowed admission to sfu as long as they take english first semester yet i was denied entrance and had to take english elsewhere, and i just figured id do the entire two year transfer and pay less money and avoid the mountain

SFU's Student Service should be ashamed of themselves for their repeated mistakes with your application. I bet that they haven't removed you from that "not accepted" mailing list after they mistakely added you onto it. You should seriously ask for some sort of compensation for this series of undued stress. Hell, you should get yourself a lawyer and file a lawsuit. Those fu*kers in Student Services really deserves to die. If I didn't have work tomorrow, I would have accompanied you up to SFU and listen to those moron's explaination.

Appeal their decisions. I didn't even know it was possible SFU could just withdraw someone like this.

Also, if you're going up there to talk to them, bring some sort of evidence. Try and get (or find) your high school transcript or something of equivalent. And don't yell at them or raise your voice. Some of these people are having their mid-life crisis and feeds off of the misery of other students because their stuck behind a fuking desk for 8 hours a day.

Although, I'm sure it could be just a mistake.

    Well here's the update....

Apparently I self reported my grades in 2007 to be something I didn't get as an average in 2006 when I graduated (which is BS.. because I don't even know how to self report my grades.. nor did I even get that far) and I wasn't given any conditions on my admission offer so.... the person on the phone was like

"Well you shouldn't even have BEEN in SFU but we have to honour our acceptance."

    :|

Im like "Can I have some sort of written proof of this? like.. a signed letter or something... so that if I get into this sort of trouble again?"

    she goes

"No we don't treat you differently from all the other students..... "

    That's not .. cool.

Plus now im all weary about it because I don't know if they actually fixed it or not... what do i do now?

and I called again because.. well.. im anal... so ...

"Ya I just wanted to make SURE that a mistake has not been made yet again.... so please pull up my application and tell me if the changes have been made."

"You called 30 minutes ago I remember you talked to another clerk, you dont get an email immediately."

"That isn't my point, I ran into this in May and nothing was done about it, I just wanted to ensure that it's actually dealt with."

"There is a note to send you a confirmation email on your application."

"So theres NO chance my courses are going to be canceled? no mistakes? i'm overly stressed out about this situation"

"No, your courses are not going to be canceled, just wait for the email to come in a couple of days.."

I'm still not sold i have a feeling i'm going to lose all my courses before I GET this email.

If that is how you spoke to them verbatim don't be surprised why they're bitchy..."please pull up my application"

--You could have said can you please check or something along those lines, it sounds awfully bossy in spite of the please

    If you said:

"That isn't my point, I ran into this in May and nothing was done about it, I just wanted to ensure that it's actually dealt with."

--You basically are being bossy to them, or talking down to them, saying they didn't do something right

Given the fact I work at SFU I wouldn't, even if I didn't work at SFU, being rude to people you are trying to get help from is clearly detrimental to your cause.

They didn't do something right. I am not at fault in any way. They are hired to do a job and they failed to do it on my application in May.

Therefore, I feel the way I spoke to them was well deserved.

Great point Iran1988. We pay these dipsticks $30+ dollar a semester to serve us. I admit that human makes mistake, however SFU Student Service can really go fuc* themselves because the way they keep screwing up Iran1988's admission is unbelievable.

You did not hire them to do a job, univerisities are exclusive organizations you compete to gain access to. Also, who are 'them'? Maybe you should make sure your misdirected anger goes where its appropriate. Do you really think the two people you spoke to on the phone are the exact two people who processed your initial application? You sound like an absolute snob.

You guys are really out of step. Universities aren't some business competing for your money, they're not like a telephone company who will lower rates so you dont go to the other company.

As I said again, being rude to people who don't owe you anything will get you nowhere. For all you know those people were grad student temps who really don't care for the attitude of some first year pre-admission. Don't be surprised if how you spoke to them had something to do with them not fixing your application ;).
  • edited August 2008
I'm confused...you said you didn't self-report your grades, but they have your grades? Are you sure you didn't do something accidentally somewhere along the way?

If you're really this upset about SFU, go to college for a year and transfer to another University.

    Nope.

Never ever be rude to a CSR. That will never ever help. Be polite and firm, and chances are, you'll get what you need. If you start belittling them, then you're just setting yourself up for some big disappointments.
