Waitlisting and time conflicts. CONFUSING

edited August 2008 in General
So I just read on the SFU website that you won't get enrolled into a a class even if you're first on the waitlist, if you already have another class at the same time.

The thing is I'm trying to get into PYSC 100, and I'm #2 in the waitlist.
The course I got in and am using for back up is ECON 102 right now, and this is causing the schedule conflict.

But both classes are closed. Should I drop ECON 102, and hope that I get into the PYSC class soon? I'd rather have a solid schedule soon, and not have one missing class.

This is my first semester with the SIS system, and it is bloody frustrating.

It also says there is "1" open seat when I view the class info for PYSC 100. What does that mean? Is the person before me in waitlist position #1 not taking the seat or what? What would happen if I dropped ECON right now? Would I get into the remaining seat?

Thanks a whole bunch.

I'm not sure about any of your questions besides the fact you will most likely get into PSYC 100 if you're number two on the wait list right now...so I'd drop ECON

Have you already gotten into the tutorial for PSYC?

I think the answer to your second question can be answered in another recent threat about wait lists.

if there is 1 open seat, i'm pretty sure it means whomever is number 1 on the waitlist also has a conflicting class at that time, so rather than go to the next person without a conflicting class, the class opens. technically this is for them to drop it, but i'm pretty sure anyone who notices can snatch it up. try swapping into it. dont' drop your other class though, swap just in case it doesn't go through.

i heard if u go to the professor or academic advisor the first day and explain your situation, they'll let u in no problem

^depends on the prof. you need the prof's permission before the academic advisor can add you. sometimes they can't because ta's are unionized and there is a certain number of students in each tutorial they can have. anyways, you odn't have to wait until the first day though, i just got added to a full class 2 weeks ago.

If you wait till the first week of class, 10% is bound to have dropped the class.

also i think 100-level psyc tutorials have been eliminated (due to funding cuts). so the course is lecture-only, and since you're #2 on the waitlist i'm pretty sure you're gonna get in.

if i had to choose between being waitlisted for Psyc or being in an Econ class, i'd pick Psyc but that's just me.
