"Recommended" Textbooks?

edited July 2008 in General
So under the course outlines for my MATH and ENGL, there's a "recommended" textbook for each. Is it all that crucial to go buy'em?

    I've never touched my recommended books.

    No, stay away from it. I have never touched any of my recommended books. Huge waste of money and hard to sell back.

    It depends, for some classes the recommended book actually helps, for others it doesn't, and for some other classes you don't even need the required book.

    Yeah, the wordings for textbooks are a bit cryptic.

    Required = Recommended
    Recommended = Waste of money

    Don't buy 'em! I never do.

    a lot of the time you can even borrow your required textbooks from the library, or buy them cheaper in book stores

    Don't bother with those "recommended" textbooks. I mean, if some people lack the will power to read even the "required" texts, what makes you think that people will have the will power to read the "recommended" texts?
