Late Penalties (Grade Points?)

edited June 2008 in General
What does it mean when there is a late penalty of "2 grade points per day"?
How many % loss is that per day?

I don't know how much the assignment is out of, except that it's worth 30% of the course. Does anyone know?

Thanks!

weird wording....i think it means that you would lose 2% of that 30%. so if the assignment is out of 50 marks, you'd lose ~3.5 marks...

When it says two grade points it makes me think, if you originally would get an A+ for it, you would now receive a B+, or if you originally would get a B- youd get a C-

2% per day doesn't seem to make sense to me personally, it seems too little of a punishment

^that i think would be 2 letter grades, not 2 grade points. maybe email your prof or ta to clarify?

    what course/prof is this for?

Email the prof and clarify before you have to find out the hard way...

    Is this philosophy?

Cause if it is. It's 2% out of 100.

So if you got 20/30 on the essay. That's like 67/100 and 2 points off is 65/100.

I highly doubt its 2% off otherwise the prof woulda just said 2% off. A grade point is consisting of letter grades, like your GPA.

I've never had a course where you would lose 2% for lateness, otherwise I woulda always handed my papers in late. It's always been horrible things like one letter grade per day, or 10% per day late.

not really, my phil class last sem had it so that 2.5 percentage points would be taken off for every day an essay was handed in late

yeah my sa 150 or something like that a couple years ago was 2 marks off your paper mark out of 100, haha

which is why i think it's 2 of the 30 regardless of what the assignment is marked out of, not simply subtracting 2% from your mark. i dunno if its just me, but 2 letter grades seems unusually harsh - i've always had classes where ,depending where you are at the deadline, you can weigh whether to hand it in then or late b/c the docking wasn't bad (i think the max i've had in any of my classes is 5%).

in retrospect it does sound harsh, but in almost all of my classes in the last year its been 10% a day which is almost two grades, maybe its just my department
