When are reg dates assigned for fall?

edited June 2008 in General
Does anyone remember about what time we get our reg dates in summer? Does anyone think itll be in the next week or two? Hopefully I don't get screwed over again, at this point with my GPA and credits I think I should have something decent

Probably late June. I probably will be screwed again because I found that my summer 08 registration date is no better than the one from summer 07.

However, this time I will get even with them. I read from a report by SFU's Institute of Research and Planning called "Undergraduate Course Availability: Defining the Problems and Seeking Solutions at Simon Fraser University" that students taking few courses can actually hurt SFU. It turns out that us taking fewer courses would

"*...reduced student credit loads and hinder the university’s ability to meet its Enrollment Plan.
*Decreases in credit loads affect tuition fee revenue."

I plan to send a big "fuc* you" to SFU by NOT enrolling in courses that I didn't plan to take and would thus hurt their cash flow. For example, if I could only get only two courses that I want, then I will only take that two courses.

does GPA mean anything? Ive had the same amount of credits of a friend and his GPA was about 1.0 higher than mine and i was a few hours before him, lol.

I think it matters for Grad school and scholarship.

Otherwise, no. As long as you graduate and get your degree, should be fine.

Talking to an advisor your enrolment date depends on GPA but mostly credit hours. As well being a first year or athlete gives you first choice.

in return, you have to spend more of your life at SFU. I believe the expression is "Cutting off the nose to spite the face"
    Suck it up.
besides, you are 1/24000, so you can't do much damage anyways.

edit: you live on rez, right? if you take fewer courses, you will have to take more semesters and pay more rez fees. Self-powned!

Meh, I don't care. It is not like I am a scholarship student and I need to take a certain amount of courses to keep the scholarship.

This is why I hope other will follow suit. And yeah, it is nice to know that SFU actually worries about their registration problem. Rather they'll fix it or not is another questions. I mean, I voted for Kevin Harding into the fuc*ing senate in 2006 (or was it 2007) because he is the only one caring enough to mention registration problem. In the next election, I voted for all candidates who mentioned registration problem and WQB in their campaign statement. Democracy at work!

Yeah, I should have mentioned that I am leaving Rez. I originally decided to live in rez because I wanted a social life and opportunities to do fun stuff. Since I got neither, I have decided to leave. Also, my current job in Richmond REALLY needs me in September, therefore I am guilted into staying in Richmond.

    The Cake is a Lie.
As well being a first year or athlete gives you first choice.
According to a reliable source, the purpose of athletes getting first choice is so that they can schedule their practices. This would be justified if they win, make SFU famous, and regain SFU some "street credz." However, since they lost everything, this is totally unjustified.

Jocks can kiss my ass, that athlete stuff is bull shit.

I can accept the fact scholarship students in the same year as me get to go first, but scholarship students with less credits than me, no!

It should be entirely based on credits, and when people tie in credits based on GPA. (my opinion anyway)

I take it you're not on a scholarship?

It's only the football team that loses everything.

You are obviously not looking very hard because there are so many social activities going on everywhere in rez.

Yeah, but what magnificent acomplishments have the other teams acomplish that warrant priority registration?

Oh on a side notes, as well as first year kids and athletes, students with disability also get priority registration.

I am refering to those that were sanctioned by RHA, not some random party that took place in some Townhouses.

    So am I.

I thought "rez social activities" was just a euphemism for "parties".

This is true, but there are also RHA events and Rez Life Events, where the later of two are all about inclusivity, no alcohol and having fun.

You have no respect for the athletes that have been working their whole life to maintain physical fitness and actally make it on a university level team.
At university, this is their last chance to make something of all their hard work and to be scouted by a bigger uni/ or a pro team. Im sure that most athletes dont take full course loads ayways so them taking our spot in any class shouldnt be a concern to you.
Theres actually a player on New Castle united, that was picked out from our mens soccer team. 2 years ago he was playing soccer here in SFU and now hes in league with the biggest names in soccer.

Well, giving athletes priority registration is no respect for academics and scholars that have been studying and learning their whole life and actually make it to university.

Also, this is unfair to the athlete/students whose sport are not a part of the university's varsity program. These athlete/ students too worked their whole life to maintain physical fitness, why should they not get the same benefit as the athlete/ students who sport are a part of the university's varsithy program.

For example, I could be an athlete/ student who sport is 50 Meter Rifle, something I seriously want to try. I, like athletes who sport is a part of the school's varsity program, need to attend practice at least three times a week. Why should these school sanctioned athletes/ students get the benefit of priority registration while I don't?

I had a similiar debate in another forum I once frequented. Like I said back then, the word University came from the latin phrase universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which means "community of teachers and scholars."

Therefore, you are either in university to teach, learn, or run the university. Anything else, stay out of our way.

You mean "football" right? Sorry, I have to throw in an obligated North America Soccer/ Europe Football joke.

I'd have to agree with Student on this.
