Enrolling in classes late

edited May 2008 in General
So I was shut out of the CRIM class selection since by the time my reg date came up every course was full

Three weeks later there are multiple seats in every section of every course that was being offered

I'm really annoyed since I'm taking courses in other departments I know nothing about

I'm just curious has anyone waited like really late into a semester to get a class? I was just thinking what I coulda done to get into these classes since there are no waitlists:

Should I have just enrolled in random classes and swapped? -- not having bought any of the textbooks and possibly getting 2-4 weeks behind in the course if I couldnt get the course I wanted, or if I got the course I wanted still being that far behind?

I'm just curious what are other peoples experiences in enrolling late in classes, good / bad?

The latest I have ever enrolled in a class was when I enrolled right after the first day of class. Still, if you insist on enrolling in the class, you should attend the lectures so you wouldn't fall behind if you manage to get in.

As for wasting money on unnecessary courses, two words: don't bother.

Enrolling late in classes is not a problem as long as you're willing to put in the effort to catch up. As for unnecessary courses, it's really a waste of money but the options are really limited in the summer.

I'm taking earth science even though I'm supposed to be studying econ and phil. I just hope earth science counts as a science credit.

Well, if those random courses can be used to fulfill your breadth requirements, then it is not a waste. You had it better than us new guys, the breadth requirements we have to deal with are very specific and restricting.

Why not? Which Earth Science are you taking? All these

    EASC 101-3 Physical Geology B-Sci
EASC 103-3 The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs B-Sci
EASC 104-3 Geohazards: The Earth in Turmoil B-Sci
EASC 106-3 Earth Through Time B-Sci
EASC 107-3 Economic Geological Resources B-Sci

    are science credits.

Even if it isn't, shouldn't you check first before you enroll in a class?

go.sfu.ca shows the designation of each class you know...
