WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL -- EEE!!!

edited April 2008 in General
I get my wisdom teeth out tomorrow (4) and I'm scared.
Anyone have some pleasant experiences they would like to share? I've stocked up on yogurt and milkshakes. I'm prepared.

All 4 of them? I did when I was in grade 12. You'll have the worst semester break ever :p

I had swelling in one side mostly so I looked like that person in the Toblerone commercial!

Be patient with the healing process and go out to eat after you're all healed up.

    i got mine out friday
    i had minimal swelling
no bruising until today, you can see a little shade of yellow on the sides
i was eating normal food on sunday, just very slowly
pain isn't too bad, i coulda gone without t3s, but they gave em to me so i figured i might as well use.

I got all 4 of mine removed at the same time and it definitely hurt. I think dentists recommend you remove 2 at a time.

I ate congee and sponge cakes for like a month.

If it's still buried in a lot of gum.

Better get a lot of freezing cuz they're gonna cut it up like crazy. Luckily you won't feel the pain, but you'll feel the pressure of the hook pushing in then pulling out.

But don't spit. Just open your mouth, and let the saliva blood drip out over a sink. Freezing will wear off in like 2 hours and it's gonna start aching so you need some pain killers for that.

I'd advise you to not eat for the rest of the day until you wake up. Cause your mouth is gonna smell of saliva and blood and it's gonna mix with the food and it's not pleasant to swallow that stuff even though it's your own. Plus food in a wound isn't good.

Should stop bleeding in the morning, rinse with water and a bit of salt. Resume eating. You can eat hard foods, just don't chew with that side unless you got both sides pulled out. Then drink soup or something.

The hard thing is getting the food chunks out of the hole in your mouth as it slowly closes. Gonna take weeks.

^ The dentist sews it up with some self-dissolving material, so there shouldn't be much of a hole though.

I had 3 removed. It took like 5 hours for the anesthetics to wear off, and those were definately the worst 5 hours of my life, as I sat there, immobilized by the pain, doing nothing but groaning and moaning.

I couldnt eat much for the next few weeks and lost 10 pounds.

    IT WAS HORRIBLE

I'm planning to take mine out some time during the summer, but now I'm really scared!!! I'm wondering if I should see a specialist instead where they put you to sleep before they cut you up. =S

Welcome to a world of pain. I had my mine out before going into Grade 12 and the aftermath of the procedure hurts. Your cheek will swell for a week or so and eating anything hard is next to impossible. Worst, you will probably taste nothing but blood in your mouth for the next week because bleeding is inevitable.

I had mine out in grade twelve but I did not have any problems. They came out, (all four) I was groggy, went home and slept, couldn't eat anything solid for a week but I never had problems like swollen checks or excruciating pain.

Ironically the person I got my wisdom teeth taken out from, was the same orthodontis that pulled out the wisdom teeth of a friend and she had such a horrible experience with him not doing them right.

it depends all on your mouth

some people go through it and eat the next day, some dont

me, i got all four out and my entire face was swollen for 5 days, and was bed ridden for seven days

as others said dont spit or swallow with a suction type motion, either drool stuff out or swallow very gently, unless you want dry sockets

and the diet thing is kinda good for a few days until you get this massive craving for solid foods, i started to try spaghetti but it hurt to chew it so i was like swallowing it semi whole, kinda hurt but i was hungry

my bleeding stopped in an hour also, by the time i got home it was over

Did you just have local anesthesia?? I'll be out, so I don't know if I'll feel that 'hook'....but the teeth are under my gums, so that sucks.

This thread made me even more scared! And I'm like a few of you, this is the only time I could do it pretty much in the entire year.

they put me out i dont know why anyone would want to get it done with only local anesthesia if getting four taken out, i did feel that feeling though as i awoke during the anesthesia but passed back out

theres no way to sugar coat it getting them out sucks, its not painful getting them pulled, dealing with it afterwards can be really bad, depending on if your wisdom teeth are impacted, and how long they have been growing out, your recovery time will be from 1 day to 2 weeks

i really felt NO pain at all, except when trying to eat solids after cause my gums were so swollen, i did get some headaches around day 5 but im not sure if that was because my diet was lacking in substance

It will be the most painful moment of your life. I dont know what it feels like to be put to sleep, but I say I'd rather go with that
  • edited April 2008
breaking my wrist and slamming my head into the road was more painful than wisdom teeth... so if you've broken a bone before, this will be a walk in the park, lol

    Just got home!
I've never been out before so that was pretty neat, and these drugs are amazing.
A friend of mine picked me up and he was reading the pamphlet to me when he walked me to the couch. There's a part that says no birth control for x number of days, and he ever so kindly said that it's going to be a problem because any man in his right mind would want me, looking like this.
So in a nutshell, I look like a squirrel.

I just got mine out on Tuesday (two of the four). I got them out from a dentist rather than oral surgeon, so he just froze that one side of my mouth with needles. The actual procedure isn't too bad - although the feeling of a grown man yanking to pull out a tooth with all his weight definitely isn't pleasent.

Make sure you take pain killers BEFORE the freezing wears off because it takes a while for them to kick in. Thanks to the T3's the pain wasn't too too bad but you pretty much can't eat anything except for like jello etc. I developed a bit of a fever as well. Just be careful about not spitting or using a straw as the suction can cause you to get dry socket which is very painful.

I don't have wisdom teeth.... hehehe.
  • edited April 2008
i was given three different kinds of pills, i also made sure i took my t3's every 6 hours or whatever it is, or is it 4 hours? i would wake up in the middle of the night and pop some more

my cheeks were so puffy, but my lips looked great, for some reason they got swollen too i was hoping it wouldnt go away there but it did
  • edited April 2008
I only have 2 different kinds...the penicillin and the T3s.
My lips are loving this as well! But I can barely talk, so it evens out.
  • edited April 2008
The penicillin is just in case the wound gets infected.

    Thanks, tips.

Haha, I have an interview tomorrow and today marked 72-hours after surgery, aka when I'm the most swollen.
    So excited!
  • edited April 2008
