Confused, Live Downtown OR UniverCity! Help
Hello,
Im facing a huge dilemma, I dont know if I should rent and Live DOWNtown OR just live up on the hill, please let me know your feedback
Downtown:
pROS:
- Evrything is close, banks, stores, transits etc
- Feels safer, always crowded with people
- More possitive for my living experience as Im an international student
coNS - Freagin' far in distance to sfu hill, so this may be a problem , and If I get a car, the GAS will probibly jamm my monthly allownce
-evrything is close expt classes! excluding ones on the harbour centre
SFU:
Pros
- Classes are close
- save on gas and if I didnt get a car....umm....its just close!
- make more friends from schooL! possibly join more communities etc
- Get a Bigger place!
Cons:
- Possibly depressing!
-Far!
-could be the biggest mistake I've ever done.
- not sure about safety at night and if stores are open late
-I heard SFU was a prison! So im thinking it must be a gloomy place to live, plus the amazingly possitive stuff im reading about the hill here on talksfu makes me not very enthusiastic loool
hmm OK im sure there are more pros and cons to each, but right now this is all I can come up with...
so Help out please, what do you guys think?
- P.S Il either move now, or after this semester..gotta chose quick

Bussing from Downtown might take 45 minutes I would say... then again harbour centre is close.
Lot of my friends that live in Rez really enjoy it from what i hear... you could ask JayDub cuz he lives in Rez.
I say rez.
Safety in numbers does not apply if they're strangers (see bystander effect)

its absolutely wonderful if you are a hip person who likes culture and ease, and accesability...i just take the 135 to SFU or the skytrain it doesnt take long...and it works great for studying before classes if i take the 135
however i have little to no involvement with the school because of that, and i pay rent through the ass, but i would never ewant to live in any suburb area after living dt
i also feel very safe living DT, cause i dont go wandering into the east side
I would choose downtown. It would most likely be more fun for you and you could really experience the city that way. There really isnt much to do at SFU so you would prolly be pretty bored imo.
then again, univercity does look pretty and i wouldn't mind living there either, but it's not as lively..
Vonnie: Well I can get an apartment for the same price but 2bds on the mountin
Danoobie: Yah there are more people and more cops strolling around in downtown. SFU forest gives me the chills, maybe Iv been watching too many thriller movies lol the forests creep me out :(
I dont get how ppls consider SFU to be more dangerous than downtown.
itd be idiotic to wander into the east side with a hand full of money just as itd be idiotic to go for a hike while drunk on burnaby mountain, falling down and dying ;)
the downtown core i feel very safe in, at the same time i dont think im going to be murdered at SFU
actually regarding safeness at SFU i dont feel safe when i get stuck up there and have to hike down the road where cars may hit me, ie: 2 months ago on that fatefull snow day
everyone on rez says rez is great, everyone downtown says downtown is great
obviously rez is cheaper and there are less distractions away from school
obviously dt is more expensive but you get a more urban lifestyle and convenience
i personally would not want my entire life revolving around school, so if you want more of a non school life dont live on res, if you want a life in the real world live dt
school is a very small part of how i identify myself, im a full time worker, and outside of school socialiate foremost, and a student well it doesnt come up often even though im full time student also
Thanx for evryone who posted
But really, it depends on the lifestyle you think will suit you. If you think living on campus will be a BIG MISTAKE, then I say live downtown. I think every person had his or her own preference (I would think it was a big mistake for me to live downtown until I'm out of school).
I would never want to live on campus ever, its not compatible with my life. It would be overly aggravating for my boyfriend to stay the night and have to leave for work the next morning. I also couldn't stay at his place without having to get up super early to go to school.
Living on campus just seems like a pain in the ass, but Im spoiled and used to luxury.
