edited July 2009 in General
That was one dirty exam today, i thought the midterm was super easy but this was just tricky for the purpose of being tricky

i had the potential to finish with an A in this class but i dont think its going to happen...my last experience with lower div ever

haha i remember when i took that
"no one should get 100% because theres at least 10% of this exam no one will know"

Doesn't anybody recall anything I said about Boyanowsky?

lol.. i need to take qualitative/quantitative in the fall and i'm not particularly keen with research.. with qualitative.. i've heard that fabian's easy but has killer TAs and lussier to be hard.. though i had him for a guest lecturer once and i must say i just love hearing his accent.. X) or i could consider distance ed.. but i haven't received any feedback on that.. got any advice to offer here insatiable? or anyone else? =\

research courses are much easier when ur in class i find...
    but everyone different i guess.
i did crim 320/321 by distance
i did sa 355/356 in class (which are equivalents but for sociology)

Found the in class ones much better

Davies is the jackass you have to avoid. He's a snob and expects way too much work from you; take quantitative with Lussier if you can. All the girls love him and his Frenchness, and he totally dresses like a Gap model. Fabian is all right (never had her, so I wouldn't know for certain, but from what I've heard she's easy). I don't know who teaches qualitative these days, but I took it with Palys, and he was cool; take it with him if you can (though you do have to write a 5000-word project). Lots of reading, but it's quite possible to prepare well. Again, if Davies is teaching it, then avoid him at all costs.

Don't take quantitative through distance education. There are some fairly hard concepts which you should learn in class and I think that the course was written by Davies, not Lussier (i.e. more work). Taking qualitative through distance is OK though, although I'm pretty sure there's still a fairly large project that you'll have to do.

i remember what you said insatiable but i didnt believe it after the midterm which was easy as pie

so maybe its a good thing i couldnt get into quantitative via DE this summer?

and YES fabians TA's are hard, they expect way too much and are bitchy about it

i would avoid fabian at all costs

    Crim 320--Lussier
Crim 321--Palys (if he still teaches) or distance education

Pretty sure I didn't do well on that final since my mark went down to a B-. Ugh.
  • edited April 2008
i ***sincerely*** believe i could have not attended any of the classes all semester and gone to none of the tutorials, and not have read the book and got the same mark I ended up with a B

Wow you bumped a helluva old thread but anyhow, yes it is that horrible.

I thought the class overall was pretty random, he goes on random tangents to which you think are completely irrelevant but when it comes to the exams, its almost 70% of his material, sometimes more.

I honestly knew very little going into the midterm and final but Titi (his usual TA) marked me like super super easy.

I took it in the Spring of 09, marks were so bad on the midterm he actually had to scale up.

For the final, he gives Titi around 20-30 "practice" final MC questions, MANY of which will come up on the final as exactly the same so memorize those.

I would avoid it at all costs if possible. Try it with some of the other teachers instead, i.e. Fabian or what not. At least she is clear and all you have to do is memorize and regurgitate.

if it's Sheri Fabian, she's alright. I took crim104 with her. Her lectures are kind of boring, but at least she's clear about what she wants.

er~~excuse me, how about Nahanni Pollard or Jennifer Wong??

    CRIM 103 Psychological Expln. Behavior B 3.00

Ended up with a B in that shitter class.

I've never taken a class with Pollard, but Jennifer Wong is pretty straight forward as well. Ehor is just too excentric and hard to predict. Also, Sheri Fabian makes her TA's mark very hard.

Sheri Fabian is Jennifer Wong's TA?? OH!! I read some comments about this TA,

u said Ehor's test is hard to predic, if i practice some pass-papers from past semesters, will be helpful? or u mean his notes are disorganized??

    thanks for ur tips

No no no, Sheri Fabian has TA's but she makes them mark very strenuously. Jennifer Wong is a separate teacher, but Jennifer is more straight forward I think.

Ehor's final exam was just ridiculous, its multiple choice and all the answers are very long and focus on the tiniest details you probably thought were not important or that he said in passing.

sign, i guess i have no choice,

do u wanna sold ur book and notes??

lol~~~notice me please if u willing to

jennifer wong is alright and is pretty clear about her expectations and exam format...i would pick her over pollard (mainly cause i've never heard of this person before so big chance that he/she is new)

but really.. for this class.. 104 and 300 (if you're going into crim).. i would opt for DE.. there's really no point in attending lectures for theoretical classes when you can read about them in a textbook.. it's a waste of time if you ask me..

Really? My TA for 104 in Fabian's class marked everything really easy... atleast that was my experience.

I dont think she marks hard, she just wants a lot of details, essentially regurgitation of like...everything.

I had an easy TA too, can't remember her name but she was pretty hot too

Well, for me, whatever she mentions in lecture you have to know and the material in that class was so easy since it was all theory and it was easy to apply to situations and stuff.

OMG. My TA was pretty hot too! Brown curly hair, Elise?

Yeah its easy if you have a crim background but I think for people who don't, its a lot of NEW memorization as opposed to how it is for crim majors, overview.

YES! So nice too damn. I remember coming late so many times cuz my tutorial was so early and nearing the end of the year I talked to her and she said she "didn't even notice"

I didnt have this Elise person... our TA was a bitch

T_T it seems like all courses i chose for my 1st seme are awful~~econ210. and crim 103 sign.......

anyway, i wish i have other choice, but he is almostly the only option...

so, u took his class before, maybe u still keep his notes or questions i can work on (i mean, if it's for sale)~or not, maybe you can give me a hint about his style, like which kind of question we r dealing about, and what are those concepts are key ideas.......

thx for ur help~ thx very much
