I love exams where...

edited April 2008 in General
You go in knowing it is almost impossible to fail the course, like you know all you have to do is get like 5% on the final to pass. No pressure at all, I had one like that and I thought, you know just answering these seven questions, I could stop now, hand this in, and still pass, anything after this point is just a bonus.

hey that was like cmpt 165 for me. I finished it in an hour and a half. I was home 1/2 an hour after it was officially over

Three of my exams I knew that I didn't even have to write the exam and I would still pass the class as I walked/ am walking into CRIM 101 with a 60% overall so far, CRIM 131 with a 55% overall and CMPT 275 with 51% overall.
  • edited April 2008
    Yeah, CMPT165 was great :D
Too bad the exam was the day before my CMPT150 exam and forced me to get up so early so I was too tired for some good studying :(

Somehow I managed to get 80 on the 150 exam though, so I'm happy

the CMPT 165 took you an hour and a half...? I dont think I was there much more than 30-45 mins--that said you probably did better than me

Am I the only one who is write exams for the sake of not having an embarassing C- on my transcript?

I demand a lot out of myself for practical reasons such as better registration dates and scholarship (If I ever get there).

No I still study my exams to my best ability so I can get as high as a grade as possible.

Yay! However, by overall do you mean the grades you have accumulated so far or your percentage in the course so far?

The only 50% finals I had was back in first year ARCH 131 and ARCH 252 (more like a mid-term). I tend to avoid courses with 50% finals now. I found that the Indiana Jones (my nickname for the ARCH Department) tend to weight heavily on tests because they don't have tutorials and thus can't gauge your participation mark.

Really? I thought all University courses are like this. All of the courses I've taken (Cmpt, math, macm) are all at the 45-50% mark.

Um I mean like, if I say I have 60% like I do in crim that is 60% of my final grade. So if my final is worth 30% then my final grade will be a 60% if I get a zero on it, or 90% if I get it perfect.

However, usually most of my finals are 50% so for me a final that is worth like 30% or lower is a joke.

    Oh, now I get it!

It is very scary for me to go into finals with an overall mark below 50%.

ever had a course where the final was worth 100% of your mark?

EASC 104 had mt worth 40 and final worth 60 (if you get lower than mt).
I failed the mt but managed to get B- on final grade because the prof scrapped the bad mt mark and replaced it with the final.

I litterally pissed on my pants last semester when i found out that i was one of the 60 that failed the mt in that class with Glynn.

but glad that the final was easier.

Don't you just hate it when good profs like Prof. Glyn Williams-Jones' profile give hard exams? I read his comments on Rate Your Prof and I can totally see why people crashed and burned... I almost took EASC 104 last spring, good think I ditched it at the last moment... Well, maybe I should thank the price of the textbook. I actually had second thoughts about the course when I saw the price of the book. I decided to ditch the course because I found a history course (my major) that fitted nicely into my schedule and I decided to delay finishing by B-Science until something much easier is offered. In the end, I finished my B-Science when I took CHEM-192 and got an A in it. Ditching EASC 104 has got to be the best decision I made in my life.

Similiar thing happened to me in ARCH 131. I was overwhelmed by other courses and I barely passed the mid term. I studied my ass off for the final and ended up getting a C+ in the course. This thus marks the beginning of my misfortune with the Indiana Jones (my nickname for the ARCH Department).

That's how it should be if you've been paying attention all year and going to classes

29/90 and i'm sure it will be scaled/curved
  • edited April 2008
When I did Calc I and II our prof would give us sample exams which were based on the questions in the textbook so we had all the answers. The ones in the book would use one of sin, cos and tan, the sample final used a second different one and then our actual final was the same as the sample but used the third of those three functions. I got my a nice B+ in Calc II because of that. My friend got an A+ in Calc II because he "grinded" that sample final and one of the options in the class was to have the final worth 100% of your mark if it was the highest grade.

Eep, I'm taking that next semester and I'm not even sure who my professor is.

Also, aren't you guys worried about your GPAs? It seems to me most of you guys just want to pass.
  • edited April 2008
its not that were worried about just passing, its worrying about failing and the stress involved therein

going into an exam knowing you cant fail the class takes all the anxiety away and can even help you do better in my opinion, if i wanted a perfect 4.0 or 4.37 or whatever id probably be a little more attentative, but realistically it wont happen in the arts, and for those who are able to get it, kudos to them
