If there are 2 people exactly the same in every way except one person graduated from UBC while the other graduated from SFU, which one would an employer choose and who would get a higher salary?
I don't know why, but many people (including overseas people) would say the UBC grad...
It's true, our image needs changing -- and our reputation has taken a hit over the years. It's come to the point where the very people who's made the school what it is now (the students) have turned against their own institution.
My point is (I'll make this short), fight for your school. At the very least, acknowledge and have pride in where you go to learn and attain your degree. As for the UBC / SFU job thing... really, we have one of the best co-op programs this side of the country -- make use of it. That may be the deal breaker for us.

LOL @ people posting under fake accounts! I only used said that "hiding behind your computer" remark to two people on here: IVT & JayDub.....so....yah.
Listen bud, i can have whatever opinions i want about SFU. Its my school too and i think its a complete shithole.
You dont like what i have to say about my school, i could care less. I have opinions just like everyone else on here has. You dont like mine, well good for you, have a great day.
The second those words came spewing out of your mouth was the second you stopped having a school to identify with. Again, I'm not the one who needs to hide due to what I say. You are an embarassment to all of forward moving society. Quit bitching and make yourself useful.

SFU is not giving us any incentive feel proud to be a SFU student. Instead, SFU is going a good job angering their students through registration problems, imbecilic administration, and (something I care little because I got a kitchen in Rez) bad food.
The only thing that I am proud of about SFU is the Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Concentration they offer in the History Department. Even this pose a problem because my pride lies with the Department and not the School itself.
getoveryourself is right when he says that a big part of the problem is in our students' attitude. We take all the negative criticism from outsiders (mostly UBC students) and we accept them as facts about our school. I'm not doubting that SFU has its flaws... but it's not like UBC doesn't have any problems you guys listed (registration, etc.). I know because I have friends at UBC who bitch about the same things all the time.
i agree with with student here.. i'm not someone who takes school pride lightly.. i had great pride for my high school and i'm still proud to tell people that.. i don't mind telling people i go to SFU and i don't hide the fact that i do.. however.. after 3 years of being here.. i can't find a single thing about SFU i'm proud to talk about..(okay maybe the high suicidal rates.. =P) but my goal upon entering university was to get in and get out.. and so far SFU hasn't been able to change that..

Hahaa whatever bud. If you read through this thread, i think u can see im not the only one who doesnt have school spirit. If im such an embarrassment, then i guess everyone else in this thread that doesnt have school spirit is an embarrassment too. Instead of trying to pretend that everything is peachy keen with our school, you need to open your eyes to see the truth and accept it. Our school gives us nothing to be proud of. A lot of other people in this thread have said the same. And if you think it has, well good for you, but you're not looking at the reality of it.
ps post from your real account. I dont like talking to fake ones, thanks.
Here's a question I pose to all of you fellow TalkSFUers. Putting aside our football teams records, as that is not what the question is talking about, who here has actually gone to a SFU football game?

I have not gone to or even watched a football game. This is quite ironic because I currently live on the top floor of the Shell House and the view from there pretty much gives me an ultimate view of the football field. Also ironic is that there is actually a football player on my floor. Speaking of which, that football field one beside West Mall is the field they use for games, right?
HAHAHAH No Student0667. Where do they play? Let me tell you, this will blow your mind... not at SFU!! :P They play at freaking Swangard Stadium and some place in Coquitlam.

My real account? Yeah because if I 'reveal' that -- my identity will be blown!:omg: /sarcasm (in case it doesn't get through to your thick head)
No, let me correct you -- you alone are an embarrassment to this school as NOBODY in their right mind would burn as many bridges as you did with your school and fellow peers.
But wait, no one sees these messages -- except for the students of course, and we know how impressionable us SFU students are to negativity. Was that your plan? Speading animosity through the safety net of your computer?
I've said it once, I've said it twice and I'll say it a third time: I'm not the one hiding behind screen names (real or fake) because of words I choose, unlike yourself

Of course we also have elite clubs who do the same thing but are not funded, like lacross, rugby and rowing.
