rant: SFU
so im driving up to school today, and cruising along at about 60 up the hill and i get past that last corner (the one after the 4 way intersection at the top) and what do i see? the sfu speed patrol or whatever they're called.
the sign at the bottom of that curve clearly states 50km, so ok i admit i was breaking the speed limit by a whole 10k, but considering i was keeping pace with the friggin 145, i dont think it was too bad.
so i get to the top near the security office where there is a 30km speed limit sign and what do i see? two people in yellow security jackets and a speed sign telling me i'm going double the speed limit (60km/h) even though i havent reached that 30km an hour sign yet.
i naturally slow down after seeing them and putt along at 40km untill i hit the sign and then reduce to 30km. what do i see in my rear view? those assholes writing my plate number down.
the last time i got written up for "speeding" at school was for driving 55 downhill just near the residence entrance (past westmall parking). its friggin stupid cause i swear the bus was doing 70km and was way infront of me.
apparently if you rack up 3 "speed warnings" you will loose your parking privellages at school?
this is BS...
rant over.

I always go 80km/h around that corner and then continue doing so through the 30km/h zone and through the rotunda.
I don't understand how you got ticketed by security for going too fast. They can't do that to you, they don't have that jurisdiction.
need to grip it in the second lane and pull a bit into the shoulder but can make it nonetheless.
but usually around areas with lots of people i only do 50-60 tops
It's true, I may go fast there but I at that speed in that location I do not need to be gripping the wheel as tight as I can and driving on the shoulder to make it.
i dont actually grip the steering wheel as tight as i can. by "grip" i meant a driving method/style called "grip racing/driving".
fwd cars have a tendency to understeer and although grip driving is more designed for AWD and 4WD cars, you can still utilize the same technique with a fwd car. just like a rear wheel drive would utilize its oversteering capabilties to pull a "drift" through that same corner.
the reason why its required that u pull slightly into the shoulder is because you need to take the corner some what tighter so that the car can pull itself through the corner. the corner itself is designed fairly weird in that there is a slight bump and then a dip prior to entering the corner which throws u off a bit before entering the corner. this results in a weight shift in the car and requires that i pull a bit tighter into the corner. when the front wheels enter the corner, if the angle/geometry is correct you can accelerate to pull the rear half of the body through the rest of the corner. ideally if there were no cars around i'd transition from the left lane into the right as i pass through the corner but there are usually people around so i cant do that.
the shoulder is approximately 2-3 meters wide and i'm only pulling about 2 feet into it max. the white line rides on the inside of my right side tires.
btw this is at the corner at the bottom of the hill near the left turn lights to hit broadway. not the corner at the top where people walk and stuff
i like hiking but i also like cars too =)
As for those speed control guys...I speed past them all the time... they haven't given me any tickets yet. Of course, not at RIDICULOUS speeds. *cough*
i have not actually gotten a ticket but i received a letter in the mail during my first year saying that i was travelling 55km in a 50km zone. i went to the parking services and asked the lady at the counter and she said that if i rack up three of those warning letters i'll loose my parking privileges at sfu?
