Re-taking courses?

How many are you allowed to retake?
I remember hearing something about 5... so does that mean you can do 5 4 credit courses? Or is it a limit of 15 credits or something?

I believe it's 5 retakes. I don't know, though what happens if you take a 6th. It just doesn't count? You get the credit but the mark isn't overwritten for your GPA? Dunno.

17) How many times may I duplicate a course at SFU?

You may have up to 5 duplicate courses on your SFU transcript, with any one course only being allowed to be duplicated once. Only the better grade is counted into your CGPA at SFU. The lower graded course is still on your transcript, but the grade is not counted.

It's up to five retakes. During the first five, only the higher grade will be taken. I'm fairly sure that any subsequent retakes will average out the two grades (e.g. a B (GPA of 3.0) and an A (GPA of 4.0) will make your GPA for the particular course 3.5).

I note that this is policy at SFU, not other institutions. If you retake, say, three courses and get better marks, SFU will look at the higher ones, but other institutions will look at both (i.e. the average), even though you've used fewer than five retakes.

You should consider whether or not you really need to retake the course (maybe you'll need your retakes for later) and whether or not you can use your work from the course from the previous time you took it :wink:

What kinda idiot would have to retake the same class TWICE?! You'd think he/she'd smarten up by the first retake....................by the 3rd time, u've spent $1500 on ONE class..haha....the person definitely isnt a math major lol
