Blu-Ray Wins

edited February 2008 in General
So, it's over, now. Walmart, Blockbuster, Netflix, and Warner Brothers have all gone BluRay only. So, it's over. Pretty much exclusively because of the Walmart thing.

Not that anyone cares, nobody was buying either format, least of all me. But yeah, there that is.

Yeah, I don't expect this "new era of high-definition entertainment" to be ushered in smoothly. For people with money to burn, yeah, but for the average family, not so much.

VHS to DVD was a no-brainer. Vastly superior quality, and it worked with your existing hardware, ie your TV, plus it was relatively cheap soon after it came out.

With BRD, or HD-DVD until it bit the dust, you'd have to buy a new 1080p television for "true HD", but that's not enough. Because if you have cable, now you have to upgrade your cable plan and get an HD cable box, and you have to re-buy all of your favorite movies on HD format. It gets damned expensive.
