Drop this course or not? Help!!

edited February 2008 in General
I'm in Applied Science and I'm taking math 151 this semester. I took a look at last fall's midterm paper and I could get 80% on it when I tried... but when i took my prof's midterm, i only got 45%......... His lectures are really confusing... I wanna have a chat with him, but i cant find him... do you guys think i should drop this and take math 157 instead(maybe transfer to arts later)?

I'd reccomend Math 154 if you're set on switching. Same credit, but much easier.

I don't know what you're majoring in, but I'm in Communications (also in Applied Sciences) and I took MATH 157. Easiest class ever.

what was the class avg. that's all that really matters in that class.
  • edited February 2008
the class average is around 55%?
  • edited February 2008
Just for some contrast, Midterm 1 for Math 154 had a 70% class average.

Is Math 154 equivelant to Math 151? I heard 151 and 157 are equivalent

    DROP IT, DROP IT IMMEDIATELY!!

    Joking

This isn't something that I or anyone on the forum can answer. If you're worried about having good grades and if you don't think you'll redeem yourself with the final exam, then yes, do drop it.

If you, however, are just worried about passing and if you think you can pull yourself together and study hard enough for the rest of the semester to pass, then you shouldn't drop the course.

E-mail the professor and ask him if the final will be easier, how you can prepare, what else you can do, etc.

I am in the applied sciences and if I had taken Math 154 or Math 157 instead of math 151 then I would have needed at least a B+ or better to use that as a prereq.

You know, it's too late anyways =P

ya today was the last day (the 8th) although i believe you still can but it has to be under extenuating circumstances.
anyhow if the class avg is 55% then you still passed. the class avg is usually a b-/c+ depending on the prof. so look at where you are in terms of this.

speaking of dropping courses, what's the bad thing of having "WE" on the transcript!???

Nothing bad per se. However, if you happen to have three or more, graduate schools tend to notice :omg:

That is, however, only if you want to go on to post-graduate studies.

February 8 (Friday) Last day to drop a class using the Student Information System, with a WD notation on your academic record.

Math 151 raped pretty much our entire class pretty hard.
My midterm marks were 41(+8)% and 37%, and my overall mark was a D

Unless you give it some serious effort you might just end up with the same thing and have to retake it...

i dropped the course cuz i didn't do so well on the first midterm, the prof's NOT helpful(don't even respond me...), and his exam is harder than last semester's 151... i really worry that I might reach the minimum requirement for the course but not able to take 152..

What I meant was what's done is done. You said you dropped the course, so leave it at that and quit worrying.

I took math 151 last semester with Randall Pyke and pulled of a B. Our first midterm was disastrous (I managed to get 80%) with the class average well below 50%. Our professor recommends anyone under 60% to drop, and then half the class disappeared the next day.

Unless you're willing to really put a lot of effort into it (3+ hours at least a day) then drop it. The first midterm deals with the easiest stuff in calculus, and it'll only get harder and also builds on preceding materials.

If you aren't dropping it, the professor will probably scale the grades. Also, the final was pretty difficult and very time constrained. So be careful.

EDIT: Oh you already dropped it. Maybe I should read the entire thread next time.
