If UBC lost $100 million, it would still be better than SFU.

I got two words for them, "PWNED BITC*!"

Seriously, what happened? Did they invested in a company that operates solely to catch flying spaghetti monster? Also, may you post the source so I can have a more critical laugh at UBC?

Can someone please explain the self-hate for SFU? I know a couple of SFU students that also hates this institution. I don't really get it. I personally love it here, but that's just me.

Also, the U.S. economy is going down the shitte*. Don't be too surprised if it gets much worse. U.S. is currently in a 9 trillion dollars debt and is running on borrowed money.

It is not that we hate SFU, it is just that SFU has done nothing to deserve our respect or love. SFU has done nothing to improve or fix existing issues, SFU has done no major research that headlined news, and SFU has done nothing to improve its reputation.

I think a lot of people who go to SFU were rejected by UBC

further UBC is in vancouver, while sfu is on a mountain in northern burnaby, I could get to UBC in such a short amount of time as opposed to sfu...
further I think the ubc campus has more amenities and more choice,
further further ubc has a more active campus life than sfu,
further further further all my friends go to ubc

i wont diss sfu that much cause they pay me lots of monies but yeah thats about it

UBC is a sanctuary for the hidden wealth of this country. Mostly the 10 million on speculative investiture. UBC may have campus life, but are you really at SFU to study or party and get social. Frankly, if you are there to party at SFU, sadly enough you are at the wrong institute. There is more to university then that. I came to SFU to study...it has taken me five years to get in and yet there are those who do not appreciate the hard work involved by the students who fought for equality, social issues and campus injustices. Not to mention, that if you are too lazy to make up your own clubs and communities on campus, you should not be disrespecting those that have done so. Also, the world of university, doesn't revolve around people that think that being at SFU is a social event. Nor that the privilege of going to any university should be underestimated. There are plenty of people who would kill for the opportunity to go to OUR SFU. Sure I would love to go to UBC...but that day has yet to come. I am sure those that need status symbols for credentials lack the ability to do the work on their own. Instead of merit, wearing something by NIKE is the only way to get a dream job. Hmmm, I wonder if they have something in my size. Probably not, I have serious studying to do, rather then bitch about having ennui on my mind, and wishing I was somewhere else. SFU as university rocks...administration sucks. Get the facts straight.

    Cheers!

I could have gone to either university, but I went to SFU because UBC didn't have my program. At one point I disliked SFU to such an extent that I wanted to transfer to UBC; I didn't do so because not all my courses would be transferred and I would have to study longer over there.

Student0667 is right: there is nothing SFU has done for me to deserve my partiality. I mean just look at the place! It's isolated, dilapidated, and dull. And don't even get me started on grading policies and administration...

The place resembles a penitentiary. Just fence the place off and put search light on each corner of the AQ.

to hell with campus life and student politics.
study, gain knowledge, get credits, get degree, get out, make $$$$$$
    that's my plan

i think theres a big difference between slacking off and partying and wanting more active campus life...if sfu could be like it is the first week of fall semester all the time itd be a blast.

i just want something to do or look at on my breaks

Thanks. I genuinely don't care about the "isolated, dilapidated, and dull" bit. In fact, I like it! However, the administration is getting up my nerve.

I am with you on this, however the administration is making even this very difficult for us with their constant mistakes and poor management.

I sort of think the same way too. UBC seems to have more beautiful girls as well.

Not really. Some people just get screwed by the system so they whine about it. It works fine for most people.

I could tell by this comment and by your signature that you generally maintain a dislike for SFU's administration. May I ask what happened? It must have been a pretty big fuck-up on their part.

I remember someone ranting about the poor services of the administration on this forum somewhere. He/She called to drop a course, and only to find out it wasn't and ended up with a failing grade at the end of the semester. It could be Student0667 or one of the mods. Don't recall.

It was a major screw-up, however the administration did the right thing by compensating me before I file a complain to Consumers' Association of Canada.

When I first admitted into SFU in September 06, the admin didn't give me FALx99 credit and sent me a notice to take FALx99 in order to receive my FAL credit. However in May 07, they sent me a notice saying that they have given me FALx99 credit after their “review of [my] interim and final grades reported from the Ministry of Education.” I was pretty pissed because 1.) It took them a fuc*ing year to read my transcript and 2.) I just wasted $592.40 taking a course that I didn't need.

However, the administration did the right thing by refunding me that $592.40 I paid to take the course. However, the time and energy I wasted in that course is lost.

After this incident, I actually want to form a watchdog group that assists SFU students in case of administrative issues. Think of it as SFU's ACLU.
