When applying to SFU directly after high school, to get your grade average , do they look at the grades of every class you took in grade 12. Or do they look at only provincial examinable courses?
The admission requirements page looks totally different than it did last time I saw it, but I'm almost certain my Information Technology 12 (Not a provincially-examinable course) mark was included toward my average, because it brought up my average by several percent...

I am ABSOLUTE CERTAIN that they look at at 4 provincially-examinable courses, that is it. Before, they also look at one course that may or may not be provincially-examinable. For me, they looked at my History 12, English 12, Biology 12, Geography 12, and Theater 12. As well as grade 12, they also look at what courses you took in Grade 11. You just have to remember to take a Language 11 or a Beginner's Language 11, live through Principle of Math 11 with a 70% or better, and take a Science 11 and you will be fine. Remember though, I am talking about the Arts and Social Science requirement. If you are in the science and stuff, then you should consult with the link provided below.
If SFU is changing their admission requirement, then it would be on the front page of every newspaper and headline every single news network in BC.
Would you like me to confuse you with the whole "English 12 mark and do I get FAL credit" thing?
Hm... when I was admitted it was my final mark, including provincials AND school marks. If it was just provincials my mark would have been so much higher! Definitely not just provincials for me... Then again schools might vary.
From what I hear from my sister, I think they do it pretty differently than from when I applied... but I think you can get your answers by checking the website?

We have to make one thing clear though. There is a difference between school mark, provincial mark, and final mark.
School mark: The mark you get from your school work, excluding the provincal.
Provincal mark: The mark you get from your privincal exam. It can either bump your mark up or down because it is often worth 40% of your final mark.
Final mark: The mark from your school and provincal mark. It is usually 60% school and 40% provincal. Final Mark is the mark SFU looks at when calculating your average.
i was just curious to see if they would only use the marks from classes like English, Math, Chemistry and biology. or if they do include marks from classes like PE, or intro spanish 11.

Bingo, they will look at "English 12, Math 12, Chemistry 12 and biology 12." They will definitely look at rather you take intro spanish 11 or not. After all, it is an admission requirement that you take a language 11 or beginner's language 11, however you don't have to worry about the mark because they will only look at if you take it or not. Remember, your Grade 11 marks is not a part of your admission average, only grade 12 courses are.
Also, they WILL NOT look at PE 8, 9, 10. What makes you think they care how well you dribble a basketball or throw a football? Unless you want to join our varsity teams (which I don't recommend.).
Where the hell are your counsellors? Where the hell are the jerk-off recruitment people? Why are they not answering these questions?
yeah my infotech 12 class was used, and my law class... lol
hahaha ... same here. 100% each.
i got into sfu with this: - list a: english 12 - 65% - list b: math 12 - 90% - list b: geography 12 - 85% - list c: infotech 12 - 100% - list c: law 12 - 100%

Congrat, looking forward to seeing you up here if you decided to accept our offer of admission. However, this is just a heads-up and warning: Unless you will so something that will improve your english mark to 75% or higher, you should take the LPI and obtain a passing mark as soon as possible. If not, you will be forced to take FALx99 during your first semester of SFU before you can take your first W course.
hahaha ... i am already a student here. i am doing bachelor of arts (maj: political science, maj: criminology, min: legal studies), bachelor of science (maj: computer science, maj: mathematics), bachelor of applied science (systems engineering option). i like the route that i've set out because i can overuse some of the courses i've taken for another degree.
i took the LPI last year and easily got a 5 on it. i think it was because it was about government and politics so i had a lot to talk about :P
Does anyone know if there is a deadline for the entrance scholarship at SFU? or do you just automatically get the 3500$ when you apply with a 90% average.

No offence, but I have this inkling that you'll either (1) be stuck at SFU as an undergraduate for quite some time or (2) have a change of thought at some point during your undergraduate study.

You don't need to apply for entrance scholarship. They will automatically add $3500 to your SFU financial account.

what do you mean by reuse the courses for another degree? i was under the impression you can use the course as a pre-req or if you've already taken it you don't have to take it over, but you do not get the credit for it. this ensures that you do the full time/credits for each degree. or does it work another way?
and just out of curiousity, do you have a particular career path that you're headed down or are you covering all bases with that academic route?

1. i can use the credits if they overlap (e.g. ENSC 150 for BASc and CMPT 150 for BSc).
2. I want to be a lawyer specializing in political scandal and public policy, anything engineering, and anything computer science.

What does anyone think about the current admission requirement to SFU? Has it become harder or easier?
School mark: The mark you get from your school work, excluding the provincal.
Provincal mark: The mark you get from your privincal exam. It can either bump your mark up or down because it is often worth 40% of your final mark.
Final mark: The mark from your school and provincal mark. It is usually 60% school and 40% provincal. Final Mark is the mark SFU looks at when calculating your average.
Are there any questions?

Haha, my bad. I though you were still in high school and came asking us about admission requirement, after all this is how this thread got started.
