Eco-Thugs

Whats your opinion this?

A while ago I was leaving a class, didnt have a bag with me that day and had a big two liter bottle of water, I was going dt and didnt want to carry it around for the next two hours or so. I could have either a) threw it on the ground b)left it on the bus for it to move along the floor everywhere, I hadnt found a recyclable can for it on the end of AQ I was on from there all the way to the bus stop, so I threw it in a regular garbage.

This girl was then like hey thats recyclable, it really annoyed me. Was I really that wrong to put it in a garbage? I try to recycle whenever possible, but would anyone else walk all around the AQ to find one to recycle it when youre in a hurry to get somewhere? Why waste her time saying that snide comment to me, if she really cares about recycling so much maybe she should be writing letters to companies to stop making the bottles in the first place, or tie herself to a tree thats going to be cut down.

I dont know it just annoyed me, Im not one of those people that dont believe in global warning, and I dont ever threw garbage on the ground, but would anyone else here go out of their way to throw a bottle in a recyclable bin if it was out of there way? Im just curious whats the norm

I make a point of it to put cans and plastic bottles into the recyclables. In particular, cans. It takes something like a third of a gallon of gasoline energy equivalent to make a new can from new aluminum. Obviously, you wanna recycle that metal if you can! :)

As for plastics, because they're petroleum derivatives, recycling the bottles is a good idea given the limited supply of petroleum in the Earth.

I could have sworn that there are indeed some recyclables bins at the bus stop up by the Renaissance - they're just not colored blue, though.

ooh gosh. I have a friend like that, every time I throw a piece of paper in the garbage they are like "THATS RECYCLABLE!" Sooo annoying. Don't get me wrong I recycle as much as I can, but if you look at our recycling practices in a global context our actions as an individual recycling our individual waste is nothing compared to... ooh lets say China and they waste they produce.

Not to say this gets us off the hook, because every little bit helps. I am just saying that if we miss recycling that one pop can, or piece of loose leaf, it will not be disastrous for the environment. Plus people should stop being self-righteous and look at the big picture of whats going on in the world.

Finally some vindication, I thought I was the only person that saw that way, everyones jumping on the green bandwagon and not looking at the bigger picture
