Networking Troubles

edited November 2007 in General
I've finally tried setting up a wired home network on my own, but I ran into some problems. I mainly setup the network to share internet usage and share files. I'm also hoping to play multiplayer LAN games. I was wondering if anybody here can help me out with the problems I'm having.

There are only two computers connected in the network, and both are running on Windows XP. After everything was hooked up, cable wise, internet sharing worked perfectly. It's the file sharing that I've been unable to do.

Previously, when I went to "My Network Places" --> "View Workgroup computers" --> I could only see my ICS host, named "MASTER." I somehow got the other computer to work and now I can see both MASTER and the other computer. The problem is, when I try to access the other computer, it doesn't work. After awhile, en error message pops up that says "SENS is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

Does anyone know how I can resolve the problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

like you said "view workgroup computers", both the computer have to be on the same Network Name, you can access this by going to

    START
    Control Panel
    View Classic Mode
    System
    Computer Name
    Change
-----Under Workgroup, put a common name on both computers like "HOME"

    restart both computers

then after, if you want to share files like say D Drive on Computer1, on Computer1, go to

    My Computer
--Right click on the D Drive and goto "Sharing and Security"
--Click on the link "If you understand the risk..."

    Under sharing and networking title:
check -->share this folder on the network
put a name so computer2 can see the name
check -->all other users on the network to change my files

and repeat if u want to share other drives

then go on computer to and click my network places and refresh until u see the name of computer1 and viola..

    i hope this was useful...
