Does anyone else think SFU is treating me wrong here?

Hey guys this is the story,

Unforunately i could not get into sfu during the fall of 06 because i had 69% in english and requirements was a minimum of 70%. So in January, i rewrote my english provincial and improved my english grade to 78%. In the meantime, i went to college for the spring semester and took an english class and a total of 15 credits with a pretty good gpa. I applied to sfu for the summer semester using my new transcript.

I was accepted into the summer semester and casually went on thinking everything was going normal. About a month ago, i received an email saying i have not met the english requirements yet. I was confused because i had 78% and had previously taken an english course. I went to the office and they said i needed to give them my transcript AGAIN in order to correct my grades. So a week later i gave them my transcript. I then noticed my registration date for classes was AUGUST1st... the latest time because i apparently have '0' credits right now. I didn't think much of it and accepted their mistake thinking it will be fixed soon. So now after two weeks i currently still have ZERO credits and an unfulfilled english requirement. It may not seem like much but since i had a late reg. date, i was stuck with scraps and found myself checking gosfu every hour. Then i noticed when i found openings, i could not take ANY business courses or ANY writing course.

I went to the office again to ask them why my grades have not been updated after more than 2 weeks. My transcript is last priority since they are more concered with the first years and it will take at least ANOTHER week. So i am stuck here with 0 credits watching my courses repeatedly becoming closed and the inability to register into any classes that i want. My goal is to have a joint major in business and computing science and i do not want to waste my time considering i am already behind.

Any suggestions or opinions of what i should do?
I am currently enrolled in math152, econ103, chem121, and cmpt125. The chem there is just a filler since i am unable to get into any other classes.

try taking your electives now or (b-soc, b-hum, b-sci courses)

i am assuming you are majoring in Business?

oh yeh, here are the program planners if you have not known

    http://students.sfu.ca/forms/programplanners/

it basically tells you what courses you have to take for your requirement so you can select the required electives from this list to take during this semester and i guess you have to play catch up next summer =/, well that is what i can see

Thanks for the link dude. I wanted to take physics but it conflicted with my computing course so i will end up take it in the spring. I can not register for a B-HU course for reasons above and my economics will cover the two b-So requirements. I wanted to take macm101 but it was closed before my registration date and has not opened since =\.
Sfu is pretty much screwing me over here.

You should have written LPI-too late now though.

And I too had and still have unupdated transcript. It still says I haven't satisfied literacy requirement >.< I asked at the "admissions, student recruitment" office why it shows "literacy requirement" and they said that they can't get it out of go.sfu.ca for some reason ~_~ They said it'll let me register for writing courses anyway but I am not so sure about it. But I am not taking any writing courses in fall anyway.

It sounds like you have some random circumstances going on. Obviously your frustrated, but don't worry about it too much. At least your IN . In the big scheme of things, one semester won't kill you just do like the above said and take some electives and get used to the environment...plenty to learn around here

Yea i was happy that i was accepted. But what would happen if they had not lowered the entrance requirements this year? If they never updated my english mark then they never even looked at my new transcript . I would have had an 80% average and still would be rejected because they did not update my marks. This problem could easily have happened to other students who were rejected but do not know about it.

It seems like there isn't much to do but wait... I'm going back to the office tomorow to explain my situation to someone else and maybe i can get them to speed things up.

btw ur chem121 won't be a filler, it can be used towards ur b-sci (science breadth credits) -> that is what i took too =P

good news! I went back to the office this morning and they gave me the same excuse and story. But this time the lady at the undergraduate records told me she would just update my english mark. I just checked right now and she did upgraded my english and did my transfer credits What is even more surprising, my classes i wanted each had one open spot with the perfect tutorial times!!! WOW the timing couldn't have been any more perfect! :)

Thanks for the support and suggestions guys! Ill be around here more often now =]
