Just curious how many SFU students like to travel and where you've been. Vote, and fill us in on your experiences!

I never travel, but I definitely want to. At some point in the next two years, I'm going to spend at least 6 months packpacking accross the world. I've got a few buddies thinking about going with me, but I'll go by myself if I have to.

I'd dying to do a world tour. I'm avoiding the movie Hostel, because I'm afraid it will make me not want to go anymore. =P

I've driven out-of-province a few times but in the last few years I've been kind of sour on travelling much of anywhere except to visit the parental units on Vancouver Island and even then I find it a chore.

I guess I should have included another option..."Im too busy to travel" because that is definitely the case for me. I've pretty much put off all traveling plans until after I finish my degree and then do it up properly

^ another option would be I'm too broke to travel. In my case, most of my friends are too broke to go travelling. On the other hand, I did screw them over once too by going broke before our Cancun trip.

i'm a lot luckier than most students, i guess. i've been traveling since i was in gr.9.
a lot of them are camping/hiking/snowboarding trips to whistler, alberta, and oregon.
i went to Japan for an exchange, to France and Italy for two months, and to Costa Rica to do volunteer work.

I feel privileged to have been able to experience different cultures because not everyone gets the chance to do it.

I always seem to be thinking about traveling. I pay for most of my trips so I tend to be very conscious about spending money when I don't really need to..e.g. the last time i went shopping for myself was a year ago haha and that was to buy travel stuff...

yeah im in the same boat as a lot of u guys,
no time, no money, no money. um no money. haha

This is something that ive been thinking about a lot lately. Ive travelled a little bit:
    - across Canada
    - through most of the U.S.
    - Fiji
    - Australia
    - Cyprus
    - London

However, ALL of those trips have been with my family, so its not like i went out and partied or anything.

Im sick of not travelling and i really want to go! However, my bf has done all of his travelling and doesnt really want to do anymore so i dunno what to do because i really want to travel (mostly to Europe, like France, Germany, Spain, Greece) and also to South America. This sucks majorly, i cant just go without now can i? Cuz id be pretty pissed if he went somewhere without me....but at the same time, he doesnt WANT to go, so i dunno....

have any of you thought of doing an international exchange through SFU?
i guess that's one option if you really, really, really wanna travel!

I was in Quebec for ten weeks this summer. I am going to California over the winter break, I am going to Hawaii for a week in February, Dominican Republic or Bahamas or Cuba in May and then again to Quebec for fourteen weeks. That is the next year of trips planned right there.

^How can you afford all of that?
  • edited August 2007
Because I get paid to go to University and I have my books and tuition subsidized.
  • edited August 2007
lots of perks in the military :)
  • edited August 2007
Oh fer def, as a pilot/officer they want to keep me so they are sending me to university for a few years inorder to keep me for a few more after that.

LOL @ perks in the military

    :/
  • edited August 2007
    Thats impressive
  • edited August 2007
But the military will only pay for some majors, right? Like, engineering etc. Things that are useful to them. They wouldn't pay for a biology degree, or an bachelor of arts. :p

    Is that correct?
  • edited August 2007
Not true, I can get any degree that I want. Friends from my platoon from basic are getting degrees in all sorts of things even buissness and Art History.

^^ THat's pretty cool. I went back to visit ontario this year, and I recently came back from a trip to Cuba. Expensive as hell, but travelling is definitely worth it. I'd love to go partying in Ibiza next year...but coop is probably going to postpone those plans.

On the top of my list for places to go is Sweeden/Norway, and the Nederlands. I'd also love to go to Africa, Australia and South America.
