Hopefully you all know what "fyi" means and i dont have to spell that out for you too.
and ps, yes i guess it is a difference of opinion cuz i just dont see how super-imposing a pic of hulk hogan destroying the twin towers is funny. This happened not too long ago and we JUST had the anniversary for it. Not that i care all that much about it or was affected personally by it, but those pics are still in poor taste.

If we can't joke about it...THEN THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON.
People need to stop being so god damn PC about stuff like this. It happened 6 years ago now, get over it. There is, and was, plenty worse going on, before and after 9/11/01.
To be fair, this has nothing to do with political correctness. Some people still get upset about jokes that cast WW2 in a humorous light.
Well, WW2 was on a much larger scale, and just in terms of lives lost, the WTC pales in comparison. This is about people thinking that they need to feel sympathy for something that happened in order to be a good person. Yes, Sept. 11th sucked, but what more can you do about it? Personally, the worst thing to me is how people glorify the people who died in the towers and on the plane, regarding them as heroes and whatnot.
No, I don't think they're heroes. They were regular people, doing what they normally did on a day to day basis. They just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. That's it. Anybody who thinks any more of it is full of shit.
There has been plenty worse, even more recently, but nobody ever talks about that anymore. What about the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake? 230,000 died in that disaster. Are their lives less valuable than the ~3000 lives claimed at 9/11?
That seems a bit knee-jerk, to me. I'm the same way - if I see everybody going east, my immediate inclination is to head west, while mocking the east. But if you look at it objectively, there is really no precedent for an attack that kills 3000 civilians, besides the nuclear attacks that ended WW2. I don't think it's particularly valid to say "other people have died, so who cares about these?" We probably ought to care about ALL of them, and even though choosing one to focus on is a bit hypocritical, that doesn't make it wrong. There is a huge distinction between the muder of civilians and military casualties, not to mention deaths due to accident or natural disaster. I'd say 9/11 jokes are akin to Holocaust jokes.
I think we can be simultaniously respectful, and make jokes - I found Osama Bin Hogan pretty funny, though illicit's pic was a bit of a kick in the junk, IMO.
Ummm, I would feel the same way if you posted pics like that about the Titanic or something like that. Its not about me feeling "sympathy for something that happened in order to be a good person." Its rather stupid of you to assume thats why i wrote my comment in the first place.
Its about showing some sort of compassion. Yes, true, it didnt affect me and it prolly didnt affect you. I could really care less about 9/11. When the anniversary for it happened this week, you couldnt help but notice since its all over the news and my prof brought it up in class. Its sad that it happened, i fully agree.
My point is that you are turning a tragedy into a comedy. The pics were dumb and in very poor taste. The one with the kid's drawing is even worse. You are making fun of death, and yes, it happens everyday, but still, show some sort of compassion. Its disgusting.
And i think you would be singing a different tune if your mother died in 9/11. Make fun of it all you want. If you find it funny, well good for you. I do not. And i think its pretty gross that someone laughs at that sort of thing. People dying is not funny.
I dont think death is something that should be made fun of. And neither is rape btw, but i wont get started on those pics cuz i honestly just dont care enough to right now.
If we all felt "compassion" for the death of every human being/animal/etc., we'd all be diagnosed with clinical depression. My point is that, it happened, it sucked, it's over, get over it. And what better way to pick yourself up when you're down by telling a joke, or laughing about it?
So if death and rape can't be made fun of...what does that leave? Not homosexuality, because we don't want to hurt the gays and lesbians.....not people with disabilities, because they won't even know we're making fun of them (but Joe from Family Guy is great, especially when they make fun of his disability), no religion, or else the bible pushers will be on our asses....Can't make ethnic jokes, because that's a touchy subject, ie. black people don't like being called the N-word, chinese don't want to be called the C-word....can't make fun of children, because they're too innocent.....so that leaves....white middle-aged perfectly-abled, athiest heterosexuals.....where's the punchline in that?
Well, if you exclude the rest of that rant, yes, it sure does sound dumb. But for somebody who actually read the entire post, it makes sense. It was a rhetorical question, and I proceeded to list topics that were touchy to discuss. Try turning on your sarcasm detector, it might be helpful in these situations.
Nice try though, you get a gold star for effort! ^_^
