job at a bank

anyone work for the bank?? i was just wondering what it's like

as well....when they ask u why u want to work at the bank, what do u say? i mean usually when i work at retail, i tell them cause i like the environment and i can learn a lot and blah blah blah, but for banking...it's kinda different...

any input would be great

    Say your good with numbers, you have good attention to detail and you like dealing with people on a daily basis. Those are all skills that would be important in a bank environment. I personally don't work in a bank but a few of my friends do, and they don't have any real complaints other than the semi-uptight work environment (not really a place you can joke around or slack off). I bet the experience would really pay off in the long run and its a good chance to learn about financial things behind the scenes rather than just at school

    depends what position you wanted to work at the bank. I currently work for BMO as a FSM, and it's good experience. Were you lookin for more of a part-time job or a job that is related to your field of study? Kevin is right, you need to possess good customer service skills. Products between diff. banks are essentially the same, so that's when service kicks in. The environment depending on which bank and its location varies. It's not always up-tight. Retail experience is good. That's what I had before I went into banking. It means you are able to work with people, and some sales abilities. Not sure what else to say bout banking..but hope that helps.

    The pay isn't great starting for tellers. Also the number of hours you get can be limited since bank hours aren't even 8 hours a day for some.

    Plus side: good part time job for students, as supervisors can be very understanding of your priorities. Shorter days means you don't get too burnt out for studying.
