This is an experiment that tests whether you can differentiate between a fake smile and a genuine smile. It has 20 questions, each question with a video that you can only play once to view the smile, then you answer "Fake" or "Genuine".

I got 16/20. I found that I relied more on the eyes to determine whether a smile was genuine or not.

i agree with the eyes.. got 18/20 on this and it was a test worth taking..

on a side note.. i've always tried to perfect my fake smiles.. and it was easy for me because my eyes naturally squint when i smile.. (heh.. typical asian thing) and it fools most people.. now that i learned of the test results.. there's definitely room for improvement.. =D

Girls always flash this fake smile at me and I ignore them. This one girl at work slammed the door in my face when I opened it for her. I ignored her smiles 3 times in a row.

    "Results
You got 19 out of 20 correct"

Wow, I'm surprised but only slightly.

I relied on two crieteria: (1) tooth exposure and (2) changes in the expression of the eyes.

Firstly, if the smile does not convey eny exposure of the teeth, it is likely fake. If the smile conveys too much exposure, it is also fake--as if the individual is trying to make too much of an impression.

Secondly, look at the changes in the expression of the eyes. A person can show as much teeth as he/she pleases and the smile can be ear to ear; yet if the eyes remain the same (look for the wrinkles around the eyes to be more pronounced), the smile is likely fake.

I found number 8 to be the hardest and number 16 was the one I got wrong.

    Good test.
