ambition versus hope

edited May 2007 in General
discuss.

ambition: being driven towards a goal, with clear aims, and points to hit, and a plan on how to achieve it.

hope: working towards what you'd like, but not really understanding how to get there, and not having a guideline on how to make it happen.

i have huge, vast ambitions, but so much of that is dependent on everything lining up just right. i have backup plans in place, but how do you balance the hope of making something happen, with the ambition to actually point yourself in that direction?

i'm speaking, specifically, in terms of music, but this applies to a lot more than just that. let's hear your thoughts.

hm.. let's start by defining what ambition and hope means to me.. they're somewhat the same thing.. you have a goal and destination you want to go.. the difference is the method of getting there.. in my eyes.. hope is the more passive way.. it's like you're there wishing and hoping that things would fall into place without doing much or doing nothing at all.. ambition on the other hand takes up a more active role.. the motivation is there to drive you to get what you want.. and so you act upon your plans and put them into action so that you will acheive your end result.. i must note that ambition can sometimes become the beast.. and drive you astray of your intended goals.. nevertheless.. i like ambition more because it works more on "if you want it work for it" type of mind frame.. so in your case.. i would say i would try to make sure everything lines up right.. instead of hoping they would line up correctly themselves.. get my flow?
