Vancouver Police Brawl with Firefigher on Robson - WITNESSED BY ME

edited March 2007 in General
On Saturday night (St. Patricks Day), just before midnight a drunk driver driving a Land Rover crashed her SUV on Robson and Seymour, she drove into 2 parked cars, a Toyota Rav4 and a Honda Civic, the entire side of the Rav4 was smashed in and thrown up onto the sidewalk, and the rear bumper of the Civic had been torn off, and the Land Rover was inches away from a glass door to a restaurant on the corner of Robson and Seymour.

I was there and I witnessed the aftermath of this crash. I had just gotten off the 98 B-Line from Richmond and I was walking up the street when I saw all this shit going on. I started walking up and their were still lots of cop cars screaming down to the scene and there were people everywhere.

When I got to the scene there were 2 men on the ground, one held down by one officer and the other was being held down by 2. The one being held down by 2 was obviously very drunk and beligerant, he kept yelling at everyone around, he kept yelling "Fuck you guys" to anyone who tried to talk to him, and the officers had to still struggle a little to keep him down. After a couple minutes one of the firefighters standing around started talking to him, and he was talking to him using his first name. It was at this point where I realized the man (being held down and arrested) was a firefighter. The firefighter, who obviously knew him well kept trying to talk him down and tell him to cooperate but he just wouldn't listen and kept yelling at everyone and had no respect for anyone or anything that was going on. Finally they lifted him up and stuck him in the back of a patty-wagon.

Well, turns out, before I got there this man (and his son) started a fight with the police. Both the firefighter and his son have been charged with assaulting a police officer and other charges relating to the incident. Read these 2 articles for more information:

Of course, there were many bystanders (like me) standing around watching, lots taking pictures and one of them got this video, after seeing this video, I probably got there just seconds after this video was taken, they were still struggling with the firefighter and that big bald guy was standing around and he looked a little rushed (like he just did what he did)

Pretty crazy to see, there were tons of cop cars, all streets around were blocked off and lots of people standing around.

Damn, I was walking up Granville when that happened, I looked down the street to Robson and Seymour, and saw a bunch of commotion, and thought "damn, I don't wanna be a part of that", and kept walking. I should've stayed for the show.

the video showed the big bald policeman club that dude lol

judging by the reaction of the firemen standing around, looks like that sorta force was necessary to control the situation haha
