running/jogging

edited March 2007 in General
Do anyone on here go running or jogging and where do you go running/jogging? I'm thinking about taking on running/jogging cuz with my new job I just sit around all day and I manage to put an extra 15 lbs since working on that job. It's been 6 months on the job only btw.

I see people on the track at school, or there are always the treadmills in the new gym if its rainy!

Jogging around my block wouldn't really work as there are too many pedistrians and I would prefer a track. Jogging on the beach during the summer months is nice though. Anyhow, have anyone tried that nike & ipod program. The ipod can track your progress and running routes for you. It looks pretty cool.

I cant do the treadmill for some reason, probably because it gets boring after 10mins even with music on. WHile running outside it forces you to finish and head home

^ I use to use the treadmill. If there is a tv to watch while doing it it's not too bad.

Not gonna lie, running on a treadmill is much different that running outdoors, and the later is also much harder. I try to do my PT almost every day, with a day of rest once in a week. When I run it is either at the SFU track, around SFU and Burnaby mountain park or around Port Moody.

If you're in the South Burnaby area, Burnaby Central, New West Secondary, and that new high school near Edmonds skytrain station have tracks. I usually go to Central once a week whenever I have free time.

Bring a running buddy so you can keep pushing each other!

Running on a treadmill is so boring for me so when I'm in my running phase I just run around my neighbourhood, and as my stamina builds up I start going further and further away. I've ran around the school track a few times but that just gets repetitive too

I actually prefer treadmills. You don't have to put up with bad weather; you can adjust the speed and the level of resistance (i.e. angle). The only thing is, you can't really sprint on the treadmills, but then again, you can't sprint while you're on a block. If you wanna sprint, find yourself a running track.

If you wanna lose weight, do 20-30 minutes of fairly intense cardiovascular exercise (e.g. treadmill, exercise bike, stairmaster, and my personal fave the elliptical trainer) about 2-3 times weekly. Do that at the beginning of an exercise session with weights (so by the time you're doing weights, your body has already tapped into its fat reserves and is using fat as energy).

Apart from that, eat well and don't forget to stretch (that is seriously important)!
