Biggest thing university has taught you

If theres one thing you've learned over the years of going to SFU and studying for tests, what would it be? I've heard a lot of things from a lot of different peeps... some say to enjoy the experience, others say to travel, others say to do coop but isn't it kinda hard to do all that in one go? What is the biggest thing you've learned so far about going to university and how to best optimize our time here?

Honestly, I learned nothing in University. I pretty much forgot everything I've learned. I thought it was a waste of money but it is nice to know that your degree may give you a slight advantage in the job market.

I met a higher ratio of actually intelligent people to total air heads. Then again, I also came across some people who were in their third, fourth year of a program and still didn't know some basic, basic information. I had a third year Political Science student in one of my classes claim that Hegel was Canadian, and another claim that Yugoslavia was part of the Soviet Union. I had an English prof claim the War of 1812 was between France and Britian. One of my profs told me about a Grad student he had, in Political Science, who didn't know who Charles de Gaulle was. Mind numbing stuff like that.

But then, on the other hand, I met some very engaged and bright people too, to whom education and knowledge were an end in and of themselves not just a means. People who wanted to devote themselves to actual positive change in the world, not just "getting a good job". People active in their communities, in social justice groups, people who were doing novel things with little to no funds or support.

Mixed bag, but on the whole, a positive experience.

I've learned a lot so far! One is to never underestimate somone's intelligence. There are some people who don't look very smart but when it comes down to it, everyone is smart in their own way. I don't really know what your asking but I would agree that university is a very big opportunity. Whether your here part time or full time, it is an experience that you won't get again in the real world, so just enjoy it for what it is and meet lots of people and see the intelligence in them hope that makes sense

i know it is cliche......but the thing i learned most about was myself. I learned what interests me and what career path i wanted to follow. Most importantly i learned what hard work is. In highschool i was an average student , but in university i really unlocked my potential and started to get the grades i wanted.
