Brush Up on your Academic Writing and Grammar : Free Workshop

Do you want to brush up on your grammar-for-academic-writing skills before the start of the Summer term? If so, register today for Academic Writing & Grammar: Skills for Success. 

This 5-day workshop is designed to help you gain confidence in the kinds of academic English language skills needed for success at SFU.  You will receive 25 hours of direct instruction on strategies for improving academic writing, grammar, and style. These strategies include:

 making meaningful connections between ideas
 using future verb forms to predict and propose
 using past verb forms to report events and situations
 making decisions about article usage (the, a, an, Ø), grammar of noun phrases, specific and generic reference
 using conditional forms and modal verbs to speculate and draw conclusions
 presenting research results and making claims cautiously through “hedging”
 practicing expressing stance and using critical thinking skills
 writing a cohesive and logical paragraph
