Academic Probation

So I am a first year student in my first semester. I am worried that both my gpa and cgpa will be below 2.0. On the academic probation page, it says you are required to withdraw if both gpa and cgpa are below 2.0. Will I be required to withdraw or will I be put on academic probation and given another chance?

  • Have a look at the page Academic Difficulty:

    https://www.sfu.ca/students/academicadvising/difficulty.html

and click on Academic Probation for more information.  It looks like you'd be on Academic Probation first and not suddenly kicked out of SFU.  Do give your department's academic advisors a try -some really do care.

Student Learning commons in the library has some later-semester help:

You can take action to turn things around versus getting into avoidance/panic mode.  University can be a big leap from high school and there's definitely nothing wrong with getting some help making the adjustment.  All the best!
