STAT 203 with Gamage Perera

Hi guys, I'm going to be taking STAT 203 with Gamage Perera in the summer & I was wondering how the work load for this course is?
I know that there are assignments, 2 midterms & then the final exam. How are the assignments & midterms? I heard from other people that the course itself is really easy.

  • Assignments are decent in length, really close to lecture and textbook. If you can do well on and understand the things in the assignments, you will do well on the exams. If you don't do well on the assignments and don't learn why you got things wrong and rectify those things you will do poorly on the exams.

IMO, should be a good course but one that requires actual understanding of course content rather than breezing through and faking till' you make it type of course. This is probably the case for the majority of Q courses.
  • @TalkUBC Okay, thank you so much for the info!
  • I just took this course.

He recommends you don't use the textbook
or the online Macmillan barcode that comes with it. Instead he suggests
you keep with his lecture notes. However, the textbook and the online
lectures offered through Macmillan learning center were the only thing
that helped me half the time. Harsha does his best but he often rushes
through things and the course at times can seem overwhelming.

That being said if you keep up with readings and PRACTICE (don't just read) you will probably do well.
    I'm
terrible with this stuff. I paid hundreds of dollars for tutoring and
still barely passed. But the issue was that I approached this course
like a social science course, and it's not the same. You have to
practice, it's not enough to just read what concepts/formulas are.

    I
failed the first exam and the first two assignments. Later, i started
to practice doing questions and I got 70-90% on all my
    assignments/exams.

    Best of luck to you!
