Brush Up on your English Skills over Reading Break! (FREE for SFU students)
Do you want to brush up on your Academic English skills over Reading Break? Is English a second or an additional language for you? If so, register for Core University English, a four-day immersion experience to help you gain confidence in the kind of academic English language skills needed for success at SFU.
The workshop sessions will be held on the SFU Burnaby campus during Reading Break, February 9th - 12th, 2016 in Library Room 7200. The workshop days are divided into morning and afternoon sessions:
10:00-1:00:Academic Writing (using error logs to improve grammar, structuring essays, developing an argument, connecting ideas, reporting evidence)
1:00-2:00 Lunch
2:00-4:00 Academic Speaking: Tutorial Discussion Strategies (listening actively, challenging critically, linking turns politely, changing topics smoothly)
* Register in person at the Student learning Commons, W.A.C. Bennett Library by February 5, 2016. The cost is $40, which includes a welcome breakfast and a textbook.
