Thoughts on the following CMPT courses?

I am taking CMPT 379, 322w, and a 4-credit elective course, however there is the possibility to now take either CMPT 371 or 475 and was wondering if adding either course would make this too heavy a semester. At this point im leaning towards 475 or keeping it to the three due to the horror stories ive heard from 379.

What are the rest of you taking this semester? Best of luck!

  • Don't know much about CMPT courses but just curious, what is your 4-credit elective?
  • SCD 301 - seems interesting and no exams at all, just a lot of writing, as expected.
  • I dont really know about 379 and 322w, but 475 ridinger (i believe he is teaching it this semester as well)was quite easy for me. No programming, no midterm and all i have to do was 5 group assignments and final exam. His final was full of memorization and assignments were project planning and estimation. IMO, it all depends on 379. Isnt this course about compiler? I heard it is one of the toughest course.
  • Thanks! I've heard similar accounts of Dans 475 course so that was why I was keen to add it in. 379 is indeed the compilers course, but the prof for it this semester seems reasonable and the assignments are all group based and not individual - as before. 322 is an ethics course, and annoyingly theres a debate thrown in there, but ultimately it shouldn't be too much trouble.
  • I think you should be ok with adding either one of those two courses. 475 is much easier, but at the same time a lot less useful.
