Workload of CMPT 276,300,365,371

So I'm currently registered for CMPT 276, 300, 365, and 371. Can anyone comment on the workload of any of these classes or if it's manageable to take all 4 in one semester.

  • It is doable. How doable kind of depends on who you are taking each course with.

CMPT 276 (in surrey at least) is a fun course, and has a pretty standard workload similar to most other 100/200 level computings. 2.5/5

CMPT 300 workload really depends who you are taking it with. If it is with arrvindh (who I highly reccommend for 300) it will be slightly on the heavier side, like 4/5. Some offerings of CMPT 300 are more like 3/5 though.

CMPT 365, this is one of the few courses at SFU I disliked. In general the assignments are quite straight forward. The actual material though can be hard, and tests in particular are difficult. 2/5 for coursework, 4/5 for exams.

CMPT 371, I never did 371, but 471 was fine. I imagine this is much the same. probably a 3 or 3.5.

This is sort of an interesting workload all up. Are you in second or third year? If you are only in second year I might choose slightly different electives. Otherwise I might reconsider 365 unless it is a topic you are interested in or it fits really well in your schedule.

As I say though, this is a doable semester. Won't be a cake walk, but you should be able to walk away with good grades in everything.
