Do profs and TAs care if you attend lectures/tutorials all the time?

edited July 2015 in General
I have a driver's license appointment and I booked it on the day I don't have classes but I don't know this is official until next week when course selection rolls in.
However in general, for first year students, do profs and TAs hound you down if you miss one class?
What if you catch a cold or something? Do you have to go to class?
Can someone please elaborate on this. I know this may sound like a stupid discussion but I have asked many third and fourth year students and they all have different answers.

Teachers don't give a shit. You're just a face in a crowd of a few hundred. Don't expect them to tell you what you missed though. Some professors are generous and they'll tell you what you missed, but most will just ignore you. It's up to you to go to a classmate to catch up on material.
  • In some courses you get marks for attending tutorials, so if you miss a tutorial and the TA doesn't mark your attendance for that day, you'll lose a mark.
  • Okay thanks guys! I am just going to make sure I book it on a day I do not have classes. :)
