Emulators and Roms

Is it safe to use an emulator and roms on your computer? (Too play old sega, nintendo, etc games)... will they cause any problems in the way my computer runs...? Are some emulators and roms "safer" than other? If so, any recommendations?

    nope i used to run emulators and roms on windows xp and nothing bad would happen, worst would the computer would crash sometimes to the blue screen of death because it couldnt load the program and the comp was confused.....anyways im over with emulators and roms

    nothing should happen... unless u dl the crappy ones... im happy with my GBA rom hehe
