I failed my chem 121 midterm, ended up with 42% however the class average was 56%.. Just wondering if chem 121 is scaled and if so is there still a possibility that I can pass the class?
A Google search showed that a curve is common for this class.
You've gotta get around 55% on everything else to pass (including assignments, labs & Lon Capa you've done up till now and the final)
You lost 5%--not the end of the world. It looks horrible on your mark now because the final is worth 45%.
If you haven't looked at your midterm really closely and assessed each section to see where you struggled you're making a mistake. Even if you think you remember the test pretty well.
I'd go in-person to ask the professor if he has any suggestions for the final. Also, if he has any information like how much will be multiple choice, short answer, etc. and how each section will be weighted.
http://www.lbcc.edu/LAR/studyskills.cfm They're not too dry and the guy has very solid advice. I've been watching 20 minutes at a time split up while I do things like fold laundry or cook lunch.
A lot of it you'll already know, but it'll be worth a watch anyways for the parts you don't think of.

There is definitely a possibility you can pass the class if you do better/well on the final and other assignments or course components.

But I'd really recommend watching these lectures:
