Want to get into Law School, will starting undergrad at Langara hurt my chances?

edited May 2015 in General
Hi, so just like the title says, I want to get into law school later on.  Will starting my undergrad at Langara affect this?  Should I go to UBC or SFU first instead?  I have been accepted into all three.
Any guidance??

  • Is Langara cheaper than SFU/UBC? If you end up with a degree with the latter a college start shouldn't make a difference.
  • It will not affect it, it really mainly boils down to your graduating CGPA. There are several other reasons in deciding which school you choose and law school isn't really one of them (directly at least). Other reasons are like cost, travel, student life stuff, programs/degrees, courses etc. etc.

UBC Law will really only look at your graduating CGPA. Other uni's that have a broad-based application like Thompson Rivers will look at everything but if you had good grades I'm sure you'll be fine as they look more at volunteer and work experience anyway.

Also, take some law courses first and see if you really want to get into law.
  • TBH law schools do not care where you do your undergrad unless you want to get into an Ivey League Law School than that is a whole different discussion!
I know people who got into university of toronto's law school and went to university of fraser valley, uvic, etc. You do not need to go to UBC or SFU. In my opinion, if you want to transfer to a university after a couple of years at langara, I would suggest UFV since it is easier than UBC and SFU. In my opinion, langara will not challenge and prepare you for law school like UBC and SFU will or any other university. However, the law schools look at your CGPA and extracurriculars. So if you are going to langara, make sure you are keeping up good grades and doing at least two extracurriculars that you can touch base upon.
