I'm interested in pursuing a statistics minor at SFU. I have a few options to start. STATS 101,201,203,270 not sure which one to take. It looks as though STATS 270 will open the most doors for me. Can anyone advise me on where to start?
I'd advise against 101, and 203 because these are meant for Arts majors who they know the majority suck at math which is why they're in Arts. So it's a much simpler version and you may miss out on learning specific things about programs like SPSS. I took STAT 100 and didn't even touch SPSS. So I'll be screwed for the upper-level Q course in my major which will use SPSS.
Well if you're given several options for the requirements of that minor I'd go for the more comprehensive/in-depth courses yeah. But maybe 101 may help set a foundation and basis if you know nothing about stats.
101 is a little more advanced than it is being portrayed. It is not specifically for arts students (A bunch of SoSy kids take it as part of their degree for instance), and does contain more advanced stats than 100, 201, 203.
That said though, if you are going for a stats minor you should definitely do 270.
